I assume your headlight switch has 2 dials, not just one?

If so, I might be tempted to think its the switch, but I'd have to look at the diagrams to see if another single point of failure is likely

The headlight switch is flanked by two wheels, one of which is to level the headlights and the other alters the brightness of the dash lights

What model is your car?

Someone might have fitted the wrong switch... :-\

When you move the dial, can you hear the motors moving at the front?

If not, I'd start with testing the switch.

Taxi Al,
its log book and badges say its a CD, but according to TheBoy it left the factory as a GLS.

Chrisgixer,
No I cant hear any motors moving at the front, but how do I test the switch?

Ok, switch is correct for the car :y

As for testing the switch, either remove it and test for continuity or try a n other known good switch :y
