Title: Why Does A Certain Member
Post by: Broomies Mate on 26 November 2014, 22:01:43
I'm not into bullying, or owt like that..... but;

Why does a certain member claim the Ford Focus is a terrible handling car, when it is very clearly the best handling car in it's class (and the class above and below).

Why does that same member claim the 3.2/2.6 is pathetic and worth nothing, yet the 3.0/2.5 is astonishingly good.... bear in mind the later engined vehicles are faster, marginally more economical and easier to work on.

Is it;

A)  The member has no clue on how to drive?
B)  The member is just jealous of others?
C)  The member is a 'member'?
D)  All of the above?

I can't be arsed to do a poll.  And this thread will be deleted in a few minutes anyway!  ;D

I think the honourable member from Bristol will be needing a certain Avatar pic. ;D

It's because he is very argumentative, and wants to be the best at everything. So therfor must be the most argumentative. This leads to views so out of the relm of reason that I'm suprised he doesn't walk round with a ruck sack sown into his skin, he's that extreme.

I assumed aimed at me, so...

claim the Ford Focus is a terrible handling car
Because it is ;)

Why does that same member claim the 3.2/2.6 is pathetic and worth nothing, yet the 3.0/2.5 is astonishingly good

bear in mind the later engined vehicles are faster, marginally more economical and easier to work on.
Because the 3.0 is quicker and more economical than the 3.2

A)  The member has no clue on how to drive?
Possibly

B)  The member is just jealous of others?
Nah, I have my health and the love of a good woman, I've nothing to be jealous of

C)  The member is a 'member'?
Possibly

TBH, I'd be surprised if such a chip for a NA car would add back what 16yrs/219k has taken away, sadly.

Just what are we trying to compare here anyway ??? to say 3.0 v 3.2 is way too simplistic ..

The 3.0 comes in 4 "guises":  Elite; auto & manual and MV6; auto & manual

The 3.2 comes in 2 .... Elite auto & MV6 auto.

If we compare Like-for-like ...

3.0 Elite Auto, 1770 Kg, 207 bhp = 116.9  bhp/Tonne
3.2 Elite Auto, 1700 Kg, 213 bhp = 125.3  bhp/Tonne

Retires to fit tin hat ....   :D :D :D

the 3.2 will outperform the 3.0

3.0 MV6 Auto, 1660 Kg, 207 bhp = 124.7 bhp/Tonne
3.2 MV6 Auto, 1656 Kg, 213 bhp = 128.6 bhp/Tonne

the 3.2 will outperform the 3.0

HOWEVER

3.0 MV6 manual, 1640 Kg, 207 bhp = 126.2 bhp/Tonne
3.2 Elite Auto,     1700 Kg, 213 bhp = 125.3 bhp/Tonne

then the MV6 "should" just about beat the 3.2 ...

as long as equal comparisons are made the manual MV6 cannot be included as the 3.2 was not made in manual form ....

Clearly ;D

A 3.2 manual saloon should be 1640kgs 213bhp, well over 128bhp/tonne :P
Title: Re: Why Does A Certain Member
Post by: chrisgixer on 27 November 2014, 21:53:56
Ah, but you forget, a normal non super human human can't stir the manual box as quick as the auto can with no super human input at all.  Because, the manual is always in the wrong gear. I'm told ;D

What we are learning here though is, never let the facts stand in the way off a good argument. ....EVER ;D :y :y :y

Yes, but if I also mentioned the estate figures, 1865kgs 213bhp = 114.2 bhp/tonne...

Then there would be no argument at all, because inspite of being 165kgs heavier and in the wrong gear, it still kept up ;D
Title: Re: Why Does A Certain Member
Post by: YZ250 on 27 November 2014, 22:03:20
3.0i V6 24V Elite 4d Auto 9.0 secs 148 mph 207 bhp

3.2 V6 24V Elite 4d Auto (LT) 8.0 secs 149 mph 213 bhp

So which figure says the 3.0 is quicker.  :-\

Ahem.. 3.2 Manual :-X

manuals vs autos must never be compared in terms of acceleration specifically from 0 ..  autos lock up very late..

manual 3.0 vs 3.2 still depends on the engine health and gear ratios as the power  difference really negligible..

and this is valid on a straight line..  when you introduce some curves it will include driver and things will really change ;)

Plenty of cars faster than an omega. Not many I can get both feet in with enough head room though.

But the mx5 i'd need one for each foot, no matter how good it is.

This is what confuses me.  :-\ My 3.2 absolutely pisses my nephews S2000 and Type R. They don't even get close to it, hence my disbelief. He has had several runs with it but never got close and it's an effortless win. They share similar 0-60 and top speed but mid range the 3.2 annihilates it.
I'm not bragging about the 3.2 as my 430 annihilates that in a similar fashion.  :)

So, as suspected, according to that, the S2000 must be quick, as the times posted there are the same as a Suzuki Hayabusa, a Bugatti Veyron and a Koenigsegg. That's impressive.  :y

What a bunch of dreamers.  ::)

Anyway, stop hijacking Broomies thread while he's having a pop at TB.  ;) ;) ;D :y

I did try to get it back on track........ but couldn't resist adding a snipe.  ;) ;D

Anyway, this TB fella, is he the one who says his 3.0 is far superior but ALWAYS turns up at meets in the 3.2, is that the fella you're on about. He is secretly proud of the 3.2 but too shy to admit it.  :y

Why does everyone think this thread is about TB?  ;D

He surely can't be the only person in the world that thinks a Focus will kill you if it's shown a corner, or that a larger, more powerful, easier to work on, better engine is absolute shite and the almost identical, yet smaller, less powerful, more difficult to work on engine is the work of Gods?  ::)

But, TBH, I couldn't take the free one. They are going at it hammer and tongs for about eight hours. They rush around, a sponge in each hand, and do a really good job. They are also cheerful and polite. Just like the local English lads would be, I'm sure  ::)
