Title: anti roll bar
Post by: badmuver on 04 December 2014, 21:21:38
Hi members, looking at replacing the anti roll bushes ( I think they are knackered) would power flex be a good replacement and what size would I need ?  :)

Yes, they only do fronts.

Although I'd be suprised if the originals are knackered. They don't normally fail.

I've replaced wishbones, drop links , and tie rods and the steering and the general feel of the cars handling is bad   :'( .

If it's not set up right it will drive like crap :-\

Sounds like you need a visit to your nearest WIM or recommended similar for a geometry set up.

Knackered A/R bushes are unable to cause your problem. And although I have polys on mine, I wouldn't bother again. Rubber ones are only a couple of quid each and are just as easy to fit.

Rectify failures. Done (assuming wishbone bolts tightened wheels loaded?)
Set up.             To do
Fit new tyres.    To do

If arb bushes are at fault, which as Nick says I very much doubt, then they have no affect on set up.

So set up, and see how you go. Then look at arb's if further issues.

To slightly hijack this thread, well, still on topic - is it possible to remove / replace the anti roll bar without taking out the engine, subframes etc... it doesn't seem possible, being an awkward shape that it is...

Yes. If both sides are jacked the roll bar is not twisted making removal very easy. The bushes open on one side.

Two bolts loosened. Slide the bush out from under the clamp/along the roll bar. Remove and fit new. Fitting is reversal of removal. Easy.

Although getting on the bolts with a spanner is a bit fiddly in some way I can't remember. :-\ ... Think I used a hinged ratchet spanner in the end :-\

Ah - might have mis-read your reply, but I was referring to replacing the anti-roll bar itself, not just the bushes. Apologies if I'm being thick  ;)

Ah. Aha ha... Yes apologies. :D

Er dunno. Can't see it feeding through from the sides given the right angle bends and the size of the hole in the wing. I guess lowering the front of the sub frame would be necessary. Maybe just the front four bolts removed with the lump supported by a jack and bit of wood across the sump, leaving the back two subframe bolts still attached to preserve the geometry set up position. Lowe the Jack, if it won't drop, undo the rear subframe bolts slowly, just enough to squeeze the RB forward and out.

Although I've never done it. The above is a guess.

....but why would you need to?

Interesting. What makes you say that?
