Title: Kajaki
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 05 December 2014, 09:53:36
The film.  I saw it last night, it's a true story about a British army patrol who get caught in a Russian minefield in Helmand.  Very gritty and although I've never been in a situation remotely like it, seemingly very realistic.  :y  It's good film that keeps you on the edge of your seat and makes you jump out of it more than once, so not for the faint hearted or squeamish!  ;)

I'd say most of us know someone who has served in Afghanistan and it makes you wonder what they went through, why? and what for?  ::)  :(  :-\

Thank for the heads up. I'm not a film/movie follower and never keep up with latest releases etc. So, nice to be aware of something rather than in 10 years time  ;D

 :(

Found out the other day my girlfriend's father (RAF) actually witnessed a close friend die in an Aircraft crash - this was in the 70s I'd guess. You think WW2, Korea, then Suez.... then nothing happened until the Falklands, then Iraq, Kosovo, Bosnia, Afghan, Iraq Mk II... I/we forget that even in those 'peaceful' times, there's still peacekeeping to be done, and conflict that doesn't really get any media / literary attention; and lives are still lost. I believe 1960 is the only year a British serviceman has not died on active service.
