Hi all....
Sorry to post this video, but as its that time of year again, I think we all need to be wholly aware of what
drink driving can do. If we are honest, we have all done it at some time in our lives (us older ones did not have breatherlisers to contend with in our early days) Scroll to bottom for video......
Mods....if you think not appropriate, or to heavy, please remove :y

Remember the Green Cross Code advert in the 70's?
I can't be arsed to look the numbers up, but I'll bet that nowhere near as many people got ran over then as what they do now.

Drink drive limit should be zero I have and will do again reported drink drivers my best mate from school got knocked down and killed by a drink driver we both survived a very bad 6 month tour in N.I in1987 for some dick driving when pissed to knock him down and drive off luckily there was a witness who got the reg number
-
32 people already charged with Drink or Drug Driving offences in the West Midlands in the first week of the annual Police offensive....
Don't know what the usual numbers are but not a good start!
-
We did 12 on Saturday!!!! :o :o :o

Drink drive limit should be zero
I don't know about zero, but there would be no harm in following suit with Scotland (and the rest of Europe) and bringing it down to 50 microgrammes per 100ml of breath as that's not enough to impair anybody IMHO and would still leave room for those who have eaten food that has been prepared with alcohol or indeed have had a couple of pints the night before.
A good idea would be for the public to have access to the same handheld device the police have so the driver can test themselves beforehand. Granted they aren't 100% accurate (for evidential purposes anyway), but it would give the driver a good idea of whether they can get behind the wheel or not.
-
the public to have access to the same handheld device the police have
Lol ;D Suppliers Lion would be rubbing their hands, they cost about £500 each & have to be re-calibrated every month, nice idea though. Although some 'twonks' will just use em to see 'how much they can drink before their over' if you know what I mean.
-
I think zero is a bit of a minefield......The answer is so so simple,,nominated drivers that take turns to do the driving and then we can all enjoy the occasion ...Grab a cab.....As someone has said we have all maybe done it at some time or another. But is it that difficult not to drink when driving..if so then those that do are so sad and cant have a life...So to those who do....get a life..dont take one away...let alone the grief that it causes to all families involved including yours .. >:( :y

That is the same amount arrested for DD by Kent Police during the first week of December. >:(
One was a 15 year-old boy from Greenhithe who was arrested at 4:10am on 7 December. He was later charged with vehicle theft, drink-driving, driving with no insurance and driving without a licence. :o :o :o

I don't understand why anyone going out for drinks doesn't use a cab to get home. Ok so if you don't want to spend on a cab going out, take your car, leave it and then get a mate to give you a lift later the next day to go and get it.
Im going out tomorrow night for a pre chrimbo drink/curry with a few neighbours.....its local where we are going so will probably walk....but if it wasn't....and it was a £10 cab fare say....four of you in the cab that's £3 each!! Loose change!! But even if your on your own....£10-£15 sounds like a good deal against risking losing your licence for at least a year!!

Could not agree more, but as we are all aware the idiots that do drink & drive will carry on doing it, they know that there are less Police about & the chances of getting caught are remote unless involved in a serious RTA. It is truly frightening to think what state some people are driving around in re drink & drugs.

I don't understand why anyone going out for drinks doesn't use a cab to get home.
I know EXACTLY what you mean TD, I would never even dream of driving after drinking alcohol! On our do last week to Liverpool I finished work at 4pm, drove all the way home, then got the Metro & a train to Liverpool and paid to stay in a Travelodge ( I know tacky :D ) £24 for the night, then got train & tram back because I still wouldn't touch the car the day after. £44 spent before I had a drink, BUT at least I have a clear conscience, Licence, job, house, and more importantly not killed anyone.

If only more people thought like this how many lives could be saved, but too many people don't give a damn.
-
Your thoughts on this why not have random breath tests as in Australia and N/Z
-
First thing or in the evenin?
We only had 5 patrols out, so they were spread over the night. The whole process takes too long in custody, your in there nearly 90 mins and thats on a good day :(

Then you have the paperwork at the end of your shift? I know officers spend up to 2 hours, often into "overtime" zones, writing up their statements, comparing notes, gathering together evidence, and filling in a mound of forms! :o :o

"overtime" ;D ;D ;D Whats that Lizzie???? Very rare we get it now, TOIL most of the time now :(

Of course Andy, can't be everywhere. In between them & 2 serious RTC's one whom isn't very well at all, several burgs, thefts of cars, fights in the T/centre. Didn't stop all night from the moment I left the nick at 22:30 til I got back in at 07:20 (should have finished at 07:00). Tried to have 2 brews, forget it!!! and food..........no chance!

It is getting ridiculous now , lack of manpower in the most important jobs Jason, I know exactly how you feel I am employed by HMPS it really is becoming a losing battle.

......and that is the best the public can expect if the proposed government cuts go ahead over the next 5 years!
The police are already stretched with never enough patrols out to deal with all that transpires "on the streets", so post cuts...........well, I just do not know how it will be but it will leave most law abiding folk feeling very vulnerable.
Reduced crime figures? No, more like crime going undetected due to a lack of officers!
So bear this in mind when voting next year! :-X

Good grief, I admire your spirit, but no money means no money and there's an end to it.

There is loads of money, shed loads of it. I know, because I pay into it. I take bugger all though. I have no Children, so I don't use schools, I've never voluntarily stepped into a Library.... The only time I utilise a swimming pool is when I'm in hotter climes.
Street lights? I have headlamps.
When the Government realises that throwing wads of cash at Foreigner's who send that cash 'home' is a bad idea, I may be a little less annoyed.
That is only one waste of our nations economy, though. There are many, many more.

Indeed, quite correct.
Thing is, IMHO, history just repeats itself, A certain bunch get in power because those not old enough to see what they did last time vote them in, that bunch then bring us to the brink of bankruptcy, those with some sense vote in the opposite side who need at least two terms to sort out the mess and then the whole process repeats itself again. :-X

Jason, it should be MANDATORY that you take proper refreshment breaks as your job is 'full on' right through the shift with maximum awareness needed at all times. A lack of food and/or drink for extended periods especially so at night, will rapidly deplete your physical & mental state due to low blood sugar putting you at increased risk of an unintended consequence. Imho, your Fed. Reps. should be fighting your corner on this issue, especially now that budget cuts mean less of you to shoulder an increasingly heavier burden. Just my tuppence worth ;)

Except, this time, I don't think it will ever be 'sorted out'. Too many outgoings and not enough coming in. I won't go into finance mode again, but peoples' mindset has changed. Even those with money are refusing to spend/invest it, and I don't blame them.

Not when it comes to State security it doesn't. There is always a way if politicians are forced into it, and this must take priority over other expenditure - welfare and the NHS, plus the full enforcement of company tax legislation without exception on those that operate in this country. Billions are being lost there and could pay for the security shortfall.
-

Regardless of who gets into power I personally think that not one person has the balls to sort the present problems out , they all talk the talk but they are scared of offending anyone, we are too far down the slippery slope.

Sorry, I'm not taking the P*** Phil, but when we're so stretched as we are there's no chance! I was the only patrol free, in custody trying to have a brew when a job came in, man knocked off his motorbike, in a bad way, blood everywhere. Do I sit back & take another slurp of tea, or go deal with it???? That's what it was like ALL night! one thing after another. AND DON'T get me started on last night...............!!! 15 RTC's in 1 hour!!!! :y :y :y

Voting in new monkies or previous monkies will achieve very little, retaining the current monkies does at least keep any momentum going... :-\

The last financial crisis was caused by american mortgage companies selling packaged bundles of worthless securities. Banks around the world bought them.
Poor regulation was endemic around the world, not just here.
The conservatives would have done exactly the same, but that doesn't sound as good, does it?

If we spent the money we collected off the British tax payer on the British people, we would have plenty of money to go around ;)
Please note that I didn't mention the EU, Immigrants, Foreign aid, The Daily Mail or UKIP in any of that before the forum fascists come and get me :D :D
I have also spoke to 2 coppers in the last month. 1 who I have known for years who are desperate to get out due to the amount of bullshit they have to put up with and the amount of hours they put in without pay or thanks :(

Just watching Road Wars (The best of) and they had one punter that blew 171 on the proper intoximeter and he was walking and talking perfectly. I like a drink and I know I can handle it when I do go for it, but that amount would put me on my arse without any shadow of a doubt (not that I have to worry about how much I drink until next October at the very least).
