Well I stripped out the sunroofs of the Disco the other week, and now this week am putting them back in. What a bloody job!!!! I'm only doin it once and am bloody making sure I NEVER have to do it again!!!
Stripped, cleaned seals of old gunk, replaced with lashings of flexable waterproof sealant
Removed both motors - both knackered as they were seized, stripped & rebuild and now work
removed runners - again seized, stripped, greased & rebuilt now slippier than a slippy thing
drain holes removed & re-sealed, Pipes cleaned & unblocked
Bottom tray sealed
Sunroof seal to body - re-sealed
Front sunroof replaced, motor added, re-sync so that tilt, slide & close work properly :D
RESULT!!!!! in & works properly :y :y :y
Roof rails removed & resealed
Right now get it back into the garage before it rains! AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!! Battery flat :( :( :( :(
Can't find me jump leads for love nor money, can't leave it outside as there's no rear sunroof in it >:( >:( >:( gonna turn green soon). Then remembers jump leads are in the Skoda ;D jump starts and in before it chucks it down. :y :y :y
I tell ya IF they bloody leak after this I'll weld the damn things shut!!!!!! ::) ::) ::)

You wouldn't be the first to seal them shut, bloody useless plastic shite things that they are, very similar design to a clit's sunroof but they are shite too :'(

Have faith big lad, it wouldn't bloody dare let you down after the effort you've put in! :y
-
I trust you used a polyurethane sealant and not silicone?
-
Geocel ???
-
did you clear the drain tubes?
edit yes
-
Geocel ???
Silicone is mentioned quite a bit ....... http://www.geocel.co.uk/catalogue/products/sealants :-\
I think Mark was thinking along the lines of Tiger Seal or Sikaflex ;)

If its not the right stuff, its tough! However there's more sealant than there was before.
As I said if it don't work the welders coming out!!! :-X

DANGLEBERRYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bloody things STILL leaking!!!!! Tearing my hair out now!!!!! Leaking from from the bloody 'new' rubber seals where the glass meets the seal. Can't adjust em any more, getting rather p1$$ed off now, so in the morning they're being sealed shut permanently! :'( :'( :'(
-
I've owned a few cars with sunroofs, but I cant remember ever opening one. Just gets hotter in the car or your or your burn your scalp if you're a slaphead.

Indeed. Pointless things IMHO. If you've got a roof, use the air con. If you want the wind in your hair, don't have a roof. Or doors. :y

Come to the same conclusion, as a matter of fact the Skoda has one & I can never remember opening it. Shoulda sealed them shut in the first place & saved a lot of buggering about! >:( >:( >:(

Pointless when open....... do nothing at low speeds and are very noisy at Motorway speeds.
They are nice when closed though. That extra light coming into the cabin is nice and something I miss. :'(
-
That's it, SEALED PERMANENTLY!!!
-
That's what you think... :-X ;D

Interestingly, I use them all the time unless breaking motorway speedlimits.
And I always use the blind at night, as I can't stand the reflections off the back of my glasses!
