Title: injector timing question
Post by: tigers_gonads on 18 December 2014, 07:12:21
Got board yesterday so decided to see if my stag lead was working (which it was)  ;D

Noticed that both the petrol and the lpg injectors on the drivers side (pots 1/3/5) are opening around a full 10th of a second at idle and low revs more then the other bank.
Any idea's folks ?
Not checked but could this be a fuel trim (lambda) problem on that side ?

this is quite often the case in my limited experience. If the fueling is off, for whatever reason, the fuel trims tend to go in opposite directions on each bank, so, presumably, the injector times follow.

On mine, sorting the fueling sorted the imbalance once better inspectors where fitted. I can't say what was happening on the old injectors though as I didn't set those up.

You could try adjusting the multipliers at that Rev range, see if it balances better. Make a note of the originsl setting first though, so you can get it back if things get worse.

Does it hunt at idle at all? (Revs rise and fall by a few rpm, within a second or so)

Sometimes hunts if not warmed through.
Plugged my code reader in last night to be greeted with a fist full of intermittent misfire codes on pot 3  :(  So i'll pull the coil pack out over the weekend and check it and the sparkplug  :)

Cheers Chris

Okay, where's Gixer gone now  ??? ???

Has Oilman put a contract on him or something  ??? ???

break knows :-\

Whilst you're there, check the passenger wiper spindle too, along with the insulating foam on the bulkhead... if that foam is wet, consider removing it before it gets to the other coilpack :-\

Forgot to mention that I had a few days when it was running a little rough when warmed through  ::) hence me thinking about the coilpack / plug breaking down  ???
I'll bare that in mind when I get around to it  ;D

Tbh, the 2 front tyres that are rapidly approaching 3 points territory is 1st on the list  :-X

I'll report back when i've had a play

Cheers Al

I wouldn't worry about it. The two banks are controlled separately with individual fuel trims, so it's inevitable that there'll be a slight difference in the injector timings as a result. If it's only 1/10th of a millisecond (you did say second in your OP!) than that's nothing to worry about. If it was closer to 0.5-1ms, I might start to wonder what's going on.

I'm going to grab a couple of tyres later Kev then plug it in and have a play about before dark.
I'll stick a more accurate reading of the timings on here later  :y
