Title: WiFi and a Hudl
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 18 December 2014, 22:26:58
My Mum has bought herself a Hudl2 tablet, but it dosn't receive the WiFi signal well.  :-\

I don't think there's anything wrong with the WiFi router as I'm now sat about as far from it as possible with my laptop, have 4 out of 5 bars and it's working well.  :y  The Hudl however has 1 bar and loses connection frequently.  :(

I'm wondering whether a WiFi booster might help or maybe upgrade the router.  :-\  Any ideas chaps?  :)

Stepdaughter has a router that transmits at two different frequencies (2.5 MHz & 5MHz from memory). The higher frequency offers faster data but struggles to pass through the wall between two rooms. I found that connecting to the lower frequency gave a more reliable connection.

Still struggling with this...  :(

As far as I can tell the WiFi router has one one frequency, it's a Belkin 'N' router but it is a few years old.  Would a more modern router give a stronger signal?  :-\

Has anyone any experience of one of these (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300Mbps-N-802-11-AP-Wireless-Wifi-Router-Repeater-Range-Extender-Booster-UK-Plug-/141268646238?pt=UK_Computing_Boosters_Extenders_Antennas&hash=item20e444795e)?

My laptop picks up the WiFi all over the house but the Hudl dosn't seem to receive it as well....  ::)  It's a PITA!  :(

As your lappy is fine on the wifi, it could of course be a faulty Hudl. Maybe take it back for another one and try that one  :-\

I have one (not that one, but similar) its rubbish tbh, well for my application it was. I needed fast throughput speed.....what it actually achieved was a stronger signal, but slower throughput speed.
(it creates another wifi network, so you have one wifi network piggy backing of another one, so will go slower, if you think about!)
But maybe ok for your application.....free to you Mr Tigger....if you want to PM me your address

Just checked my Hudl 2.
Full signal next to router, then drops by one bar when I take it upstairs and into the back bedroom. Distance would be around 30ft and signal would be through two external walls (circa 1910, so brick, not tissue paper and spit).
