Title: Am I losing my marbles?
Post by: Nickbat on 28 June 2008, 10:41:16
Quote from today's telegraph (headline story):

"Following a campaign led by The Telegraph, Mr Darling, the Chancellor, has assured Labour MPs that he will look again at "green tax" plans to increase Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) retrospectively on vehicles bought before 2001."

I thought the problem was the increases on cars registered AFTER March 2001, not before. Is this just a typographical error, or am I losing it?

Probably the latter...  :-X :-/

No you're not losing your marbles.  They want to tax vehicles before 2001 as well, they're still deciding on the best excuse to justify screwing us all.  :'(

As Rickyboy says .... they are thinking of extending the new tax screwdown to earlier cars.

Basically, owners of cars bought after 2001 are being unfairly treated --- so to make matters fairer the govt decided its better to screw all of us !!!!

Take hope in the possibility that there will be a change of govt soon, I think. However the new lot might not rescind this ( and other) cock up(s)

I've heard about his on the wireless at work. Just raised tax on newer cars, now want to raise it on older ones. Classics used to be excempt @ 25yrs but they knocked that back to 1972.
My cars are one of my hobbies not just transport, Migs, Classics, Landies etc. They want us all running about in 1.0 hatchbacks or equally bland hybrids. :(

This never really happened, they soon realised what they had done and changed it. Brought in under a Conservative government. :)
