Earlier I started the car and it was a little rough. Switched it off and tried restarting. The spanner light came on and it was spinning over but not firing after 2 attempts it started.

Without codes, its simply guesswork. And here on OOF we try to instill a better diagnostics methodology :).
Sadly in this case, that does mean it needs the codes read.
If its cam sensor or crank sensor, it will fire after about 5 or 6 seconds.
If the EML is flashing, its immobiliser related.

Ok it had a genuine cam sensor about 4 month ago, no codes shown up just the spanner light was flashing and cranking engine but not firing. Just driven it again and all is well.
could be pmt or the fact its christmas and as everyone knows cars always cost money at christmas ;D

Spanner light flashing is immobiliser.
Usually the immobiliser ECU cannot see a recognised transponder in the key

If it was just a one off, maybe. Check the transponder in the key is secure, and stuck in place (a dob of superglue works).
