Post by: moggy on 04 January 2015, 15:24:10

Biggest that will fit.

Hi Robson, just spoke to the guy at the garage. He only has a 60ah but with 620a.The one he sold me is 56ah 500a,so it should be better. As i only do short journeys now,he said he will change it and fit it for no extra cost.So result.Dean.

My 2.6 has a 71A/H battery which works well.

I would say that a 56 A/H battery will be under-nourished when the temperature really drops.

Hi Opti, its funny vauxhall say 54ah is ok for a 3ltr omega. But from what i am reading, its not the ah that counts. Its the amps depending on long or short journeys.

The correct battery for your car is a 72Ah 680A.

ECP is a good bet.  Check the date on the battery though, and make sure it hasn't been sat on the shelf for a long time.

Vauxhall doing their 75ah for £70, which is cheaper than their 65ah, for some reason!

Wherever you get your battery, general consensus (after much debate on the forum a couple of months back) is get it somewhere with either good warranty, so you have comeback; or somewhere with a high flow of sales, so your 'new' battery hasn't been hanging around in a cold warehouse for years on end before being sold.  :)

If I remember rightly that one Sir Tigger has provided the link for was the 'other' option / best bet alternative one available. They shift a great many, so as said, won't have been going 'off' in a warehouse for months/years.

In the end I went for genuine Vx, for about £8 more for another 4ah I decided to stick to 'factory', as opposed to 'aftermarket' however I'm in no way knocking that Exide though, and I'd be perfectly happy owning and trusting it for many years. My other genuine Vx battery fitted to the Weasel is approx 4 years old, with no signs of age as yet.

The Exide from CarParts4Less have gone up in price.  ::)   I paid £52.94 last January, so it's not quite the bargain it was.  :-\

:y Yep, I have had car from new so I know original VX :y.  Mind you, price of the VX battery I am tempted to treat the old Girl  after 14/5 years  ::)

The reason I remembered is I've had my '99 TD Estate since it was 6 months old, and we had a poll about the longest owners some time ago. :y (that didn't come out right did it? :-X)
