Been trying to help out a guy whos fried his ecu on his 2.5 manual V6, previous info here stated it had to be a V6 manual replacement ABS ecu as I already had one from a 4 pot. Will one from a 2.6 manual do the job??????? or will the DBW difference cause an issue

Won't work as advertised... DBW V6 TC works by braking the rear wheels in addition to cutting fuel, hence the vented rear discs :y

I though the 4 channel ABS came in on a MFL :-\

4 channel = 4 wheel :y

4 channel = 4 wheel :y
My Carlton had four wheels ... but it was only 3 channel ABS ie it looked at the teeth on the crown wheel of the diff and counted it a a single wheel. I'm sure that the early cars had a 3 channel set up that looked at both rear wheels as a single wheel.
I'm sure TB will be able to enlighten us ;)

You mis interpret...
With 4 channel ABS each of the four wheels has it's own sensor. DBW V6 ABS ECU also activates channels 3 and 4 independently to brake either rear wheel as required when TC demands it. This is in addition to normal 4 way ABS function :y
So in summary :
All Pre facelift = 3 channel ABS.
All Mid facelift = 4 channel ABS.
All Facelift = 4 channel ABS.
All Mid/Facelift V6 = as Facelift plus one stage TC (throttle retardation only).
All Facelift DBW V6 as Facelift plus two stage TC (throttle retardation and wheel braking).

..and one from a DBW car will require a CAN connection, which isn't supported by the non-DBW ECU.

:y I see! :y

The rear braking is also done on the non vented disc setups to, its the basic ESP function introduced at the facelift. Nothing to do with having vented rear discs.
-
Ah ok... Figured that given the pounding the rear pads take, that the better heat dissipation of the vented discs made sense... :-\
-
I strongly suspect they went vented purely for 'marketing' reasons.

Cynic ;D

You must mean "basic TC fuction"? :-X As my car happens to have ESP which, I believe, was never available in UK, only fitted to the very latest continental (LHD) cars. :D ;D
Sorry, could just not resist... :-X
-
It was marketed as a basic ESP in the UK, no yaw sensor on ours so the full flung job could not be installed.
-
So basically it does need to be from a non dbw facelift V6 manual then, going to hard to find a working one but auto easy peasy, lol ?

Ident needs to match firstly, then the variant settings
