Title: Fuel pump relay
Post by: Kieran on 26 January 2015, 09:26:35
Hi all
Car won't start, no fuel pumping thru. Want to check the relay but not sure were it is located. Unable to find it in the engine bay, is it located with the fuses inside the car. It is a 2001 2.6 petrol.
Cheers

It's in the box by the battery. One of the two purple relays at the back of this box. I can never remember which.

If you pop the lid off the relay you can press the contacts together and see if the pump starts. Form this relay it passes through a fuse in the cabin fuse box and on to the pump.

Note that if there's no output from the crank sensor the ECU won't enable the fuel pump. I think the later V6s do prime the pump for a couple of seconds when the ignition is turned on, though, so listen for that.

The fuel pump won't run on startup until the crank sensor is sending a useful signal either, so that's a possibility.

Just double checked and the fuel pump relay is the purple one closest to the nearside wing, the one next to it (nearer the engine) is the main engine management relay.
