So. I passed my level 3 vehicle maint. and repair in June or July 2014. And if I'm honest I've been pretty lazy with regards to sourcing work.
So with the new year came a resolution to sort my shit out! With no experience under my belt I bravely (yeah right ::)) went for a couple of jobs. In 'n' Out being the first place. They didn't want me and they wouldn't even consider voluntary / work experience, although I would say they were pretty good with updating me, e mails etc. The other being the RAC... didn't even hear back. :'(
I then decided to spam my CV out to local garages ;D didn't hear back from any...... except Under the Bonnet in Northampton. They said come down for a chat and I started work experience today. Everyone there has been so effin' amazing. It's very relaxed and I absolutely loved it. And to top it off the owner came in and said that the head mechanic had told him really good things about me and that we'd have a chat in a couple of weeks to see what we can work out going forward.
So, within ten minutes was major servicing an 11 plate Audi S4 :o :o :o :o Holy shit that's a nice car...but I really got to gen. up on iDrive style systems that modern cars now have to reset service lights etc.
Then serviced a BMW 3 Series (E90)....... two words...... air filter. UNBELIVABLE!!!!! ;D
And then finally got to grips with pulling a dead steering rack outta a Mundane-o. Got it all loose, just to gotto wrestle with it tomorrow ::) ;D
So all in all, they're amazing and I'm so grateful for the opportunity when no one wanted to know. Hopefully the start of a new chapter in my life.
Their site if anyones interested...

Really overwhelmed by the messages of support. Really appreciate it boys thanks very much!
Had another great day today.
Got pas rack out of mundane-o ST. Surprisingly easy. Drop two rear subframe bolts, one gearbox mounting and two rack securing bolts then pull out the side. New one slotted in, bit of messing about with getting the rack connected to steering shaft but it eventually lined up, lines back in, new fluid and after a bit of noise got all the air out and job jobbed. Boss did the alignment.
Seconnd job, nice ten plate Audi comes in and I'm like. . . Why the hell does it look pregnant? ??? ??? ??? Car had come in to remove an unbelievable amount of ice from the under tray. God knows how he'd done it lol
Third job wiper replacement ::)
Final job was a pug van. S'got an oil leak, check it out webby. Ok....looking up from underneath, yup, big engine oil leak. All the way from up top. So drop the car down again to get a look round the valve cover seal. Opened the bonnet and cause of the leak was immediately obvious. . . Dipstick TUBE with dipstick sitting on top of the air intake scoop thingy ??? ??? ??? Was a fiddly bugger but got that back in, topped up with 2l of oil ::) and sent it on its way.
Fun times boys ;D back next Thursday.

Nice one webby :y Have you told them your a dab hand at welding yet ;D
-
;D
Funny you mention the welding. I think I'm going to take my new welding cart and utilise it as my tool trolley as he said I could bring my tools next week to make it easier.
If they take me on permanently in the future it looks like I'll be down hell frauds getting a tool trolley and cab thingy. Oh and a properly good windy gun :)
-
Well done, good to hear positive news like this. All the best.
