the plot and list of work thickens!! Now have to do rear wheel bearing, 2 tyre changes, cam cover gasket.
Well I did buy it to 'practice' on but now I may be regretting it a little! :-/
-
Oh... and the cam kit! ::)
-
Is this the one you bought on ebay recently. :-?
-
Yes mate! Its not what I expected.... or budgeted for :P
-
Its a crooks gathering place, ebay. :-?
-
Yeah!! But.... I did want to try my hand under the bonnet..... just did not want to be spending all day every day under it!!! ::)
have bought lots of cars from e-bay and I must say that this i the first lemon! I am considering if to keep it or just get rid as the cost in making it somewhere near right will probably be silly given the relative value of it.
Just cant decide what to do??? What do people think?? :-/

I did the exact same last summer and bought a lemon from ebay, I just sold it on in the end after going through the process you are in shall i keep or not for a couple of months. At the end of the day it's up to you
-
At the end of the day you've still got a lot of car for the money so probably worth sorting out once and for all if you're doing the work yourself and then hanging on to it. 8-)

Sounds like its a days work all in all. Cambelt is easy with the DVD, wheel bearings not tried on omega myself but the difficult part is when it is seized. Cam gaskets, are easy once everything is out of the way :y
If I was closer I would come give a hand, but not in UK unitl July August and then around london only.......
Keep it and fix it! :y
Edit: wrong flippin month!!

General consensus seems to be keep it.... would have no hesitation if the bodywork wa redeeming. But it is a state! Looks like it may have been in a knock. Many gashes in the body.... huge ammounts of rust (which I was going to sort out anyway) several large dents.
I do not see myself keeping it for an age. But certainly the dogs are much happier being taken out for walks around and about instead of just locally.
Jut need to get the 4 pot dvd!! Would not feel confident without it. The haynes manual has scared the crap out of me to be honest! It makes an oil change sound like some kind of precision engineering task!... not that it is not important of course.

4 Pot! Even easier! No excuse! ;D ;D ;D ;D
The rust is easily dealt with. Some araldite rust compound, some body filler for the bad bits, some spray from your local stealers or get some wet and dry, a pressure spray (hire), setup a dust free room in the garage and do it yourself! :y
By the way can one of the admins change the profanity filter, nursie mentioned The book that must not be named..... and it wasnt picked up :o ;D ;D ;D
-
Yee book of old lies!! Thanks for the advice matey :y :y
I think I going to keep 'it' must give 'it' a name. The elite is called Charlotte. Any suggestions??
I need the practice under the bonnet anyway :P
-
as long as it is basically sound, mot'd etc it will always have value as its an estate - there is always demand for them. The things you mentioned are not unreasonable and really just to be expected with its mileage.
-
Yeah. Will do me good to do something as Im bricking it at the thought, but I am sure I will be ok when push comes to shove ;)
-
Without knowing the mileage, Mot, what you paid it's hard to say. What i can say is, if the cambelt is your main worry but you're happy to play/practice on the other bits, the kit's cheap on the 4 pots & i've seen two members @ Timbucks Telford (Shifnall) cambelt meet drag a 4 pot in, grab the tools they needed, pop the bonnet & drop it back down in the time it'd take me to give it a quick polish (& i'm a valet tart)
Not my place to name names on here... the letters M & J spring to mind but i've seen them in action. As Gordon Ramsey would say, " tensioners, belt, strip, replace, done...yes?)
P.S. This was one member per car, not both on the same one.
Impressed! 8-)
-
Well I did offer you mine, full MOT, Tax, 66k Mot’s to prove and pretty much getting on for nearly mint for a 10 year old car. ;D ;D ;D
Top money though ;) ;) ;)
