Title: rear door loom
Post by: hawke113a on 14 February 2015, 17:19:11
i am putting a f/l door loom into my pref/l elite....ive been told its a straight plug and play which is good....but where does the loom plug into....is it inside the door or on the door pillar...which means having to feed all the wires thru.... >:(

Remove the grommet from the door pillar... Plug is just there.

Clearly if you're running wires from a moving part to a non moving part it will involve feeding wires through... Switch wire will need feeding through the door card as well and the weatherproof sheet will need to be carefully removed/refitted :y

Are you sure the connectors are the same pre and post facelift?

Reason I ask is that after a prang last year I replaced the rear door on my post-facelift with a door from a pre-facelift. I swapped the loom from the old damaged door into the new pre-facelift door, but the hole where loom passes through the door shell is much smaller on the pre-fl than on a post-fl. You can just about jam the pre-fl connector through the hole, but it's very very tight. I would therefore surmise that it's a different connector on a pre facelift rear door loom.

Another thing that won't fit is the rubber grommet weather seal that's integrated into the loom. I had to file the hole on the pre-fl door out to approx twice the size to get that to fit.

I am open to being corrected in this regard... in which case the window switch plug will need dismantling and swapping with the facelift one... plugs can be dismantled into their constituent parts transferring the terminals to the relevant points on the new plug :y

I am working away currently,  but can gladly detail the switch pin outs from the wiring diagrams when I get home tomorrow evening if required :y
