Hello again everyone! :D
I'm very pleased to say that today I have agreed to buy an Omega, so I'll soon be back in the fold! :y
I won't be collecting the car for a little while, as its a fair old trip, but I'm very much looking forward to getting my hands on her!
I've bought this car so that I can participate in a trans European car rally next year, so I'll have plenty of tinkering time getting her prepared. Can't wait!
Good to be bad! :y
-
hi James , good to see you back on here . . . what you getting then ? :-\
-
trans European car rally next year
Any of the route in Spain?
-
Good to see you back :y
-
Indeed :y
Wouldn't be an immaculate black 3.2 Elite per chance... ::)
-
To be honest Varche, I'm not sure. The exactly route is a closely guarded secret. What I can tell you is that it starts in Edinburgh and finishes in Rome, covers 4250 miles and takes 10 days! :y
Could well be Al, what gave it away? ;D
-
Lucky guess... ;D

May be longer with the usual omega running hassles. ::)

Well if it does and you need MFL parts, I have a garage full! Of course if it is a 3.2 then 4000 miles is a breeze . I suppose the only mods you will need will be a coolbox and power supply and a couple of ugly baby screens* (to keep the glare of the sun off you) ;D
* tea towels work just as well!

Thanks for the offer mate, but the chosen vehicle is a 2003 3.2 facelift model. The most critical mod will be the CB, so we can have the crack with all the other crazy peeps on the rally! :y

Sounds like a great laugh. As we all know, you get a lot of car for your money with a V6 Omega. Is there a spend limit for this event?

There is mate, it's £500 which includes buying the car, and anything that needs doing to it to get it through an MOT, but excludes the actual cost of the MOT, Tax and Insurance :y
-
The choice would be pretty obvious then, eh? Welcome back.
-
I was thinking just the other day where you had buggered off to ;) How did the over size shed finish up then
Good to hear from you again, fancy coming to the next meeting at the Angle?
Cheers
Andy

So you got a mint '03' 3.2 Elite for under £500 :o 8) :y

Hehe! It's gonna be a long day! 7 hour train ride up there, then I've gotta fix it, before a 450 mile drive home! ::) ;D

Be a nice day out though :y

It will be as long as I get it back on my drive in one piece. Then I just have to remember all the things I've forgotten about Omegas! ::)

Dare I ask what's wrong with it.... very rare that the next owner of 'your' car looks after it when you've sold it to them. :'(

Yer . . come on James . . what have you gotta fix before you drive it back ? . . dying to know :-\ :-\
New cambelt & oil cooler ? ;D ;D or maybe just a crank sensor ::) ::)
-
I'm hoping it's just the coil packs that need changing. It's got a misfire. I did the panel test via FaceTime, and it's throwing up codes 0300, 0301, 0302 and 0306.
The Cambelt is overdue slightly on time but not mileage. Only by a few months, so hoping that will survive the journey home. The new GM belt and tensioner kit I supplied with the car when I sold it is still in the boot! ;D

Both banks, so unlucky if its CPs. Check MAF output though :y

Unless ECU is telling porkys like the do :y

Wasn't harry Enfield was Michael winner, doing the car insurance advert...
-
Water filled coil packs will put up those codes, as does a faulty maf..

You're thinking of Calm down dear...
Calm down, calm down was Harry and Pauls two scousers :y
-
Would a faulty MAF actually cause a misfire, or just throw up the codes?
-
iirc, a faulty MAF causes rough running as the ecu tries to second guess the intake air volume and tweaks the fueling to try and reach a happy medium... Hence if the rough running improves with the MAF unplugged, then the Maf is goosed...
Misfire codes are generally spark related, so coil pack contamination/degradation or fouled plugs :y
-
So if I get there and it's running like a bag of spanners, I can just unplug the MAF an if it improves I can just drive it back with it left unplugged?
-
So if I get there and it's running like a bag of spanners, I can just unplug the MAF an if it improves I can just drive it back with it left unplugged?
Yes.. :y It switches to the ECU default settings when unplugged.

Yes.. :y It switches to the ECU default settings when unplugged.
Indeed, with it unplugged, the ecu cannot see it,and instead of trying to rely on duff info, it resorts to a base map... Might flatten the response slightly, but it is not limp mode :y

I take it you still get the 100 codes

Oh yes ;D
