I guess they would be mercenaries although they claim no pay just board and lodgings. Good that they were arrested on their return.
Interesting: fighters also from Serbia and France. Great opportunity to go and live out your fantasy to kill people I guess.

Hmmm there'll be trouble at mill over these modern day Conquistadors. I guess they're facing the inquisition back in Madrid, nobody expected that! ::)

Many nationalities are fighting on both sides particularly Serbians on the Russian side and Chechens on both sides. Personally, I think it says something about the people and which side they side with. Decency, democracy and human rights or crime gangs, brutality and repression?
This Russian opposition politician who stood for decency and democracy against Putin, paid the ultimate price this evening:

Don't forget that all brutal dictatorships have an allure to certain types of people. William Joyce - Lord Haw Haw is a good example and he paid the price with a date with a hangman's noose as part of the tidy up at the end of WWII.
Many Communists are still filled with nostalgia over the evil and brutal USSR and many people still have soft spot for Uncle Joe Stalin, who was an order of magnitude bigger when it comes to mass murder compared to Hitler and IMO is probably the most revolting of people in the entire history of humanity.
