Title: matrix flush
Post by: vauxsull on 02 March 2015, 14:35:38
Well I just flushed it out and reversed the flow and expected to see some discolouration... But no . The water coming out was as clear as it went in... Wasn't banking on that as the heaters are awful...  >:(

Pretty much matches my experience, should be warmer again regardless.

So what do we think is causing poor heat if the matrix is clear?

Heater bypass valve incorrectly connected or not working....

Might even have a vacuum leak, thus won't work when it needs to...

OR

Something in the dashboard had become adrift and needs reconnecting...

HBV was changed last year some time and all seems well with it. The solenoid on drivers side has come off and can't alter temp but can on passenger side.. But overall temp inside is poor.. Where would there be an air leak?? And how would that affect the temp?

Fix driverside temp control and report back :y

Not a cat in hells chance I can do that... Don't have arms or fingers like Mr tickle... Was contemplating cutting out a section in the side to gain access to it..

Where could there be a vacuum leak though?

Why ??? Just lift the front end of the centre console side to unkook it, then pull it away slightly and push in down... Control is right there... ::)

If you don't fix it you'll only ever have lukewarm cabin air as the driverside is stuck permanently on LO...

Ive read the " how to" on this job and seems far more complicated to do than you describe? We are talking about the same thing here?

Without seeming like a complete idiot. ( difficult for me I know) I didn't exactly understand what I'm lifting up and pushing down  ???

Was the HBV fitted correctly with the pipes on the correct ports?

Errrrm yes  :-X

Is it possible to balls that up?.. Ive just found the heater module .. There's also a brass coloured rod behind it with a hook on the end bent around a plastic thing... Don't know what I'm to look for though?

The centre console continues into the foot well. It locates on a bracket. Lift it up as far as you can to clear the brackey vertically, then pull it towards you a couple of inches to clear the bracket horizontally then push it down to allow access.

This assumes you are working from the drivers footwell/door, refers to the forward end of the centre console and might also require the removal of the panel above the pedals (three clips and pull) :y

I've found the motor now.. Behind it is a brass coloured rod that appeared to be loose and bent into a shape around something that shouldn't be connected to the heater set up... How does this rod connect to the silver coloured motor? Assuming it does??is there an image on here for me to look at?

Yes you can balls it up  ;D :y

If you mix the pipes up then it bypasses the matrix when you want heat and passes coolant through it when you want cooling.  :y

Bloody hell I shall have a look at that tomorrow then... I did fit it myself so there's every chance I could hash things up... If the pipes to the HBV are wrong would it be blatantly obvious?

Just pull the vac pipe off the top of the HBV to see if that makes a difference.

If so, you need to investigate the vac system.

If I have plumbed it in wrong it still won't work untill I find out where that metal rod hanging behind the motor solenoid goes..

Can anyone tell me what the " rod" looks like that attaches to the drivers heater solenoid in the foot well? Think this has been interfered with before but not sure what I need to re fit it?

Should be a plastic arm assuming facelift...

Clear the decks, ignition on, climate panel to LO, reattach arm, then get an assistant switch driverside to HI. You should see the arm move verticallyish down... if it doesn't move it's not attached :y

Post by: vauxsull on 02 March 2015, 18:26:31
Well that explains it then... I don't have a plastic rod ( yes it is a facelift) I have a length of steel rod that's attached to the flap at the top and I can hear the flap open and close when pulling on the rod but its not attached to anything at the bottom just bent around a lug.... The heater has been played with before... Can I buy a replacement rod??
Title: Re: matrix flush
Post by: vauxsull on 02 March 2015, 18:28:46
And what does the arm attach to ? I can see the silver coloured motor but how does it fit to it?
Title: Re: matrix flush
Post by: 05omegav6 on 02 March 2015, 19:08:00
Just a simple ball and socket joint :y

Set heater to LO and you should see the plastic arm... might need to pull the cover off the servo if it isn't visible (might have pivoted around behind it)

Rod then locates in the other end of the plastic arm :y

It would appear I need a replacement arm... Ive posted in the wanted section.. Not holding my breath on getting one being an obscure part...

To answer 1 of your questions, the HBV needs a vacuum pipe attached to it to work... When using the heater, the system makes magic happen and tells the HBV vacuum pipe to become vacuum'd and thus activating the HBV :)  :y

I know nothing about the brass rod attached to the silvery thingmajigger you have found under the dashboard :)  :y

Post by: vauxsull on 02 March 2015, 22:18:41
Turns out the brass rod thingy is a bodge job from previous owner as the plastic rod that should be there ain't... Bottom half of the rod is bent around something just to keep flap above open.... I van source a replacement solenoid nut I will struggle with getting an arm... ( unless there's a part number for it??)

Might be wise to acquire the servo, complete with arm :-\

I can get a new servo from steve@omegaspares but he doesn't have the arm... Is there a part number for that?

Well I have the part number for the missing lever off the motor..... Ooo suprise suprise its no longer available from the dealers.... Surely there's someone on here that's breaking a Miggy with climate control whose happy to sell me what I need? 😓
