Title: F/L 2.5 td feels sluggish under 2500rpm?
Post by: andrew-v8 on 04 March 2015, 13:28:29
Hi a friend of mine has a f/l 2.5 td manual, he came round the other day for me to do the brakes. These were done fine but when i test drove it it seems very flat. It gets up to speed okay its just it doesn't seem to have much go. You can hear the turbo whistle. I know they're not hugely powerful but i had an auto a couple of years ago and im sure it pulled better than this. I cleaned the egr and the fuel filter is new. Hes had it years and said he hasn't noticed a decline in performance. It might just be me and its fine but like i say my 2.5td auto and recent 2.2dti felt more pokey.

could be a number of things, when I had TD's, one of them went slightly sluggish and it turned out to be a faulty MAF (not fitted on very early ones).

Other cheap service trick would be new Fuel Filter filled with Diesel Magic trick.

Check both small rubber pipes connected to the inlet manifold are clear and have no cracks. I can't remember where they both go, and CBA to go and look. ::)
Is it defo the 2.5 TD and not the later 2.2?
