Title: rattle on start up
Post by: Dan282 on 04 March 2015, 21:43:16
Only for a few minutes I have a rattle coming from the cam belt or aux belt area. It goes after a few minutes and only happens on start up when cold. Cam belt up to date. What could it be guys?

Pop the aux belt off and run the engine from cold... no more than thirty seconds, and idle only.

If the noise is still there then probably lifters as Vamps says,

Otherwise if no noise, belt still off, spin each pulley in turn, checking for roughness or play :y

Releasing tension off the belt will allow checking each pulley by hand.

But aux belts often do make a sqeaky rattle/typical belt noise from cold. Silicon spray on the belt will shut it up if so. And discount anything serious in the process. ...or not, as the case may be.
