Title: oil and filter supplier?
Post by: Impact Pete on 11 March 2015, 10:56:37
In the past I was able to get correct parts from a member on here that worked at a Vauxhall garage, is there anyone still doing this?

I only want oil filter and air filter and I'm also now unsure what I need as last time the local car parts supplier had supposed correct oil at about £17 for 5 litres now they say GM are recommending 5w 30 fully synthetic but price is up at £28 for 5 litre.

I know it's best not to listen to what GM say so what do people say on here and best place to get all the above

thank you

If, like myself, you don't have access to TC, then Autovaux are offering 4x5 litres of the above for £66 including VAT and delivery.

So £16.50 a pop. :y

Being ebay it might not be genuine though!  ;)  ;D

Cheap enough though, it works out at £11.50 for 5 litres or £2.30 per litre.  :y

I'm not sure if anyone has used this supplier, so if you do let us know how it goes!  :)

Does Gixer recommend the Lidl as opposed to the Asda then? Just the oil, not the filter, I never bother with that messy thing.

I think he's still testing.  He disapproves of recommendation on price alone you know.  ::)  ;D

Pair of half wits!  ;D

There's advice on getting trade club access in FAQ. While it is £25 a year, it does support another good car club and allows members here access to trade prices. With oil you'll get most of your fee back in the first buy. A sound investment.  :y

As most sensible members know, gm oil keeps the Mayo effect on the filler neck and breathers to a minimum.  So gives your breathers a better chance of keeping clear. And hence has a better chance of keeping seals intact, including cam seals which protect your ignition system.

Most members, including the op, know this already.  :y

Avoid Castrol as its especially bad for Mayo. And feeding trolls. ;D

Trade card proves your a member of trade club. Most people aren't in the trade. So a small fee isn't unreasonable either.

SO 5w30 or 10w40 semi or full?

I know somewhere on here there is a guide but I think the lack of sleep due to 2 babies meant I probably scrolled right past it !

Unless you follow STMO's advice then you'll come home with 15 pints of milk!  ;D

Either will do.

Ok thanks that what I seemed to understand from the cars manual but was unsure.
But I also assume don't mix the 2 as I might well of done when I was travelling back on motorway and the check oil light came on forcing me to stare at naff oil in a petrol service station wondering which one it was!

Either way I'm changing the oil soon but anyone think I should flush it while I'm cleaning breathers out etc?

If you don't normally flush it, or it hasn't been previously flushed, then a bout of rapid oil/filter changes every 2-3k should clear all the crap out without blocking the strainer :y
