Post by: zirk on 13 March 2015, 19:29:16
Need to do some remote access (Desktop) nothing special, Win7 Lappy to another Win7 Lappy, There be on a Home Broadband (Virgin or Sky) again nothing special normal WiFi Network Router.

Not done this for a while, last time was yonks ago when I needed to access Server and was using a PC Anyway directly into the Server (Dial Up Modem) so I didn't need access to their Network etc.

Anyway any recommendations, ideally free, easy and legal,

Ta, Chris.  ;)

Give teamviewer a try. Free for non commercial use. Needs to be installed on both machines.
If on the same network maybe try rdp?

Yep...I got Teamviewer on all my comps.

Thanks J and T, looking at Teamviewer now,  :y always nice to get a heads up, rather than have to troll through all the alternatives.  ;)

Now logmein is only available commercially, Teamviewer is my freebie of choice (though remember freebie is not always best).

Remember if the remote end is left unattended, you need to disable it from sleeping (or have a WOL strategy to wake it), and set Teamviewer to autostart (which means creating an account with teamviewer).

Its not the fastest in the world, but it works reasonably well. If you're a keyboard junkie like me, you'll find the intermittent nature of the TAB key a PITA, so get used to using mouse more.
