Just replaced door solenoid on front passenger door on a 2002 CD. Heard talk about the importance of keeping membrane intact on other sites to do with air pressure??? so was surprised to see no membrane at all on this door, I suspect its had a whack on that side in it's lifetime.
I'm about to change the interior to a leather elite spec so was wondering has my old seats got no airbag on that side or is the membrane not that important after all, or
If i replace with different seats will the lack of membrane set off the airbags or any warning lights.
I'm planning on cutting a new piece of plastic to fit but wanted to know a bit more about it as well
Many thanks

Slam the door really hard with the ignition on and report back... :D
Replace it with plastic sheet and duct tape... Where it goes should be easy enough to see :y
-
Thanks Al
Got kids so the door gets slammed regularly as why close a door softly when it can be swung with gusto! :D
but I guess I'd better get some plastic In it and check the other doors as well.

Put another way, replacing the membrane is less messy than dealing with a popped side airbags :y

You might wonder about the cables needed to connect to door card. Cut small holes in membrane pull cables through and then seal hole as best as possible. When you did your door locking motor was there a large opening at the bottom of the door or a plate riveted over this opening with an air bag sensor screwed to it. No cover and sensor no side air bag no need for membrane except as water deflector.

Thanks for all the replies can't remember if the sensor was there but will reinstate membrane as suggested.

If it's your 2002 CD I would be pretty pissed off if the sensor was missing :-\
Side airbags were standard on all but base mfl, and fitted to every single fl :y
