Title: Brake Pad warning on comouter
Post by: ckz on 24 March 2015, 18:58:03
Hi Guys.
i changed Brake Pads today, after market as they cheaper .lol
they don't have the wires for the warning attached.
now i have the computer telling me Brake Wear and check.

how do i get rid of that?
wires connect together or any way to disconnect the feed ? anything as I don't intend buying Vauxhal Brake Pads which going down like others anyway.

Omega CDX 2.5 V6 automatic Estate 2001

Thank you

Buy the sensors if you want the system to work (approx. £7 per sensor), or modify old sensors and short the cables and heatshrink up.

GM pads are £15 ;)

how do i shortcut them?
just cut them and connect both poles together ? shrinkwrap after?

pads being only 7£ the set for front.
needed it fast so no time to wait of orders etc.

....

No pads have the warning wires attached, the sensor is a separate item that clips to the butterfly shaped anti-rattle spring

Hope you don't need to rely on them at that price ;)

they get changed in latest december again.
is not allways the expensive or branded are the best.
the reason i get this price - company discount.
never had any trouble with any of them in 5 years.

dont forget the car is doing some mileage. lol

so get isolation of the wires each side and shortcut them should stop the computer warning message then ?

Yes...join the two wires together, seal them, and tie them out of the way.
Not condoning this fix, but it works. :y

Simply unplug the sensor wires if you must... :-\

Excuse my ignorance Al,,,I assume you mean just unclip the sensor wire under the wheel arch. Does this not leave the circuit open. Only asking as I fubared one of my wires, but shorted them as I thought the circuit would be open, until I put a replacement wire on. :y

ime, the warning only comes on when the sensor wire earths through the disc :-\

Not so Al. the warning comes on when the sensor wears through & the sensor becomes open circuit. That's why as a 'temp' fix, the end of the sensor is cut off, the wires joined together & tucked up out of the way.
I know that Fords use/used to use a system that 'earthed' through the disc. ....... no idea about my Merc  ???

My plod car has the sensor wire tucked in by the flexi hose and no warning light on... still has the busted end attached...

Perhaps pfl/mfl are therefore different  :-\

It must still be close circuit then
Unplug it ..... the light/message will show. Short it & it'll go away  :y :y

Agreed if you unplug it, it goes open circuit and puts the light on - same on mfl and fl ;)

will do it tomorow.

never had them on any car attached. no need because as i said, i change them with the disc in december anyway.
guessing untill them i do another 10-12 k plus2k caravan towing, so worth the effort to exchange.

before anyone suggest the rear, just done them on last weekend.lol

Am I right in saying you changed your pads 'today' (ie: 24th March), and you will be changing them again in December?

you heard right. yes it looks like.
i bought the car in August last Year with brand new Brake Pads front and rear. rear Discs not the best in this Time.
the Car had 79000 miles when i bought it, now 125000.
so i think considering this mileage in this time, Brake Pads renewal was ok.
dd i say i like driving lol ?

don't forget caravan towing too.i

Slowly, obviously. 45k out of a set of front pads must put you into Miss Daisy territory ;D :y
