Title: auto to manual clutch/flywheel options
Post by: Michael Devlin on 07 April 2015, 19:57:57
I have bought a 3.0v6 auto which im intending to convert to manual. I was wondering what clutches and flywheels are compatible with the 3.0 engine, i know the gearboxes are universal. I was thinking of buying a 2.2 16v to get my manual setup from but will the clutch and flywheel fit my 3.0? Any help greatly appreciated

As the V6 was available with a manual gearbox, why would you consider any other setup?

Won't be a fit, as the dual mass flywheel of the V6 has 8 mounting holes, the 2.0 and 2.2 only have 6 of those.

Did a motorswap in one of my Omega's, from 2.0 to 3.0 and keeping the manual of the 2.0.. had to replace the flywheel and clutch (bigger size as well).

I looked up clutches on ebay an it appeared to me that the 2.5 3.0 and both diesels use the same clutch/flywheel setup, would i be right in assuming this they all said 240mm clutch disc
Reason i wanted to use 2.2 is because they are far easier to come by in rep of ireland and alot cheaper to buy

Use Vectra fly wheel and a spacer, from ebay. :y

A C20XE flat-type flywheel (lightweight when compared to the DMF), a factory/LUK clutch kit and a Retropower clutch spacer will do the job nicely.

If you want a solid flywheel instead of dual-mass, the one I used was from a V6 Cavalier (same on Calibra) with the Cavalier disk and the Omega pressure plate.  You can also use a C20LET clutch disk.

Be sure to have the correct sprung or unsprung clutch disk (sprung for solid flywheel, unsprung for dual-mass).  Either way use a 3.0V6 Omega pressure plate or you risk getting clutch slip.

Yesterday I went and got myself a lsd diff and 3.0 flywheel with 8 mounting holes as mentioned above so i suppose its best to just get a new 3.0 clutch and pressure plate for it now :) so I'm assuming the 2.2 petrol gearbox and release bearing and gear linkages and all the clutch and brake setup will now be a straight fit once i have 3.0 flywheel clutch and pressure plate installed????
