Title: ABS ECU broken?

Hi

I've got a ABS/TC light in my dashboard, but speedo is fully functional (cruise control too if that matters)
a buddy if mine read out with a pc, witch led us to believe the ECU has failed (not tech 2)

The thing I'm wondering is, can the ECU have failed when the speedo is fully functional?

Opel Omega 3.0L 97"

Abs ecu uses an average from all four sensors to produce a speed signal...

First thing would be to check that all the sensors are plugged in, no chaffed wires etc, and that the reluctor rings are relatively clean and intact :y

ABS ECU uses info from a rear (o/s I think) ABS sensor for speed purposes on manuals, gearbox sensor for autos. I had an ABS fault on T reg manual 2.0 which I overcame by unplugging a rear sensor, making the braking simple but retaining speed reading. So if you have speedo, any one of the other three sensors could be faulty, as could the ECU.

When abs ecu went on the old Elite Estate ('97 too), initially speedo working ok. as was cruise.  Then speedo became intermittent and eventually packed up.  Replacement abs ecu sorted.

When my ABS/ TC came on it was due to water ingress on the electrical connection to the ABS unit

If all sensors and reluctor rings look OK fault probably lies in the ECU. The guides on here may frighten you, job is not that bad. Come back to us for an easier way of changing it. You will need a spare ECU from a similar car (manual or auto, V6 or V4) same part no. In UK we send them away to ecutesting with £100 and they come back sorted.

I had this not long back and was craping myself with all the doom and gloom about abs ecu failing and having to send it away only for it to come back with no fault found and so on, until I paid a visit to my local Tech2 garage who for just £10 correctly diagnosed a faulty brake switch, £7 for a genuine GM switch I found on ebay and problem solved.
The point being, get it checked using a proper Tech2 rather than guessing and you might be pleasantly surprised.

Turns out the abs unit in broken, and will need replacing.
The abs unit in my car is Bosch "0 265 203 004"
does anyone know if "0 265 203 002" will fit, as i can get one second hand

You can get them repaired easily enough... ;)
