Title: MID configuration?
Post by: GastronomicKleptomaniac on 14 April 2015, 06:57:57
Before I start investigating the atrocious fuel consumption, I'd like to check the MID is correct for the car, a 2002 3.2 manual on 17" wheels. And if it isn't, does it need a chat with a Tech2?

Can't help with MID, but worth a quick manual fuel consumption calculation to compare?

Aye, that will be getting done - needs a thermostat, and there's an air leak somewhere, then a full service... And possibly an O2 sensor. Took it to work yesterday and got 17mpg indicated...

17"s run a slightly smaller rolling radius than the original 225/55/16s so the Mid won't read right...

To test, if speedo is calibrated and accurate, it should read the same as TomTom at a set speed on   a straight road, say 50mph over a mile of straight dual carriageway.

With 235/45/17s it will be reading nearer 54 mph, which won't help the consumption any as the Mid relies on the Abs speed signal to base its calculations.

Your options are...

Get the mid recalculated to 2.6 MV6 Manual for correct wheel size, 17"

Get a mid from a 2.6  MV6 Manual.

Get the mid from a 2.6 CD or Cdx manual and fit either 225/55/16s on 16" wheels or fit 245/40/18s to 18" wheele. The rolling radius is the same as it left the factory with either size.

You should be seeing a minimum of 280 miles from a tank to a maximum of 420 (my personal best from a 3.2 manual), and average would be 330-340 miles.

If you're struggling to hit 300 inspite of being gentle then it might be worth changing the thermostat... That made an instant 3mpg change to mine :y

Just found my way back into this topic - plenty of food for thought there, thank you! Will be looking closely once the thermostat is swapped. :y
