Evening fellas. How are we?
When wifey puts handbrake on she pulls it up to where she can physically pull it to but it still won't hold the car. . . Tried to pull off with it on and car moves.
I put it on as I'm a tad (not much lol) stronger and got it a couple of clicks higher. It then held the car when trying to pull off.
So. I'm thinking a bit of tightening. Agreed? It's simple job. . . 10mm under the handbrake gaiter.
Cheers guys

I would check rear shoes 1st,if ok the adjust them like omega.
-
Cheers Martin, I will do.
Just so I get this right. . . And thinking about what Mark said re brake shoes. . .
Check meat on shoes. If lots (I suspect it will have lots as cars only got 29k on it) then I can slacken off the cable, pump the pedal to get the auto adjusters working and then once stopped clicking then tigtenhandbrake cable?
-
Does it have rear discs or drums?
If discs, adjust the cable, if drums, then shoes need checking along with mechanism as per Omegas :y

Drums mate :)
After having a conversation with Mark im thinking I back off handbrake cable all the way, remove drums and get lip off, slacken adjuster wheel all the way, put back together, pump brake pedal to set the auto adjuster and then tension the handbrake cable.
I believe this is what Mark was saying so that I get the adjustment exact and the auto tensioner working.
Do you agree that's the way to go? Assuming I've understood marks previous explanation

That is how I read it :y

Bang on taxi. Cheers mate :y

...plus I was always rubbish at setting these things manually by spinning the drums! Lol
-
Slacken the cable right off Webby (underneath the handbrake)
Stamp on the brake pedal a few times.
If the adjusters are working okay and you have meat on the shoes, it should self adjust upto the drum surface.
Now take up the slack on the cable and all should be hunky dory :y
If it still doesn't work, its drums off time ;)
If you do pull the drums off, take a angle grinder and take the lip off the drum before re fitting :y :y

Mr Bear.....have you still not grasped the handbrake lesson I have been preaching for SO LONG now......
Never, never. never adjust a handbrake on the cable......or you will fall into the trap all the other mechanics do of not understanding handbrakes....
Do as Tiger says :y

You're right Mark. But I just wondered as we are only talking a click or two whether that would be acceptable.
I'll do as you have said many times. Cheers mate :y
