Anyone who could afford to spend £10,000 on a car in 1971 was pretty well heeled.
For comparison the newly introduced V12 E-Type was a snip at a mere £3200.

I have never been a huge fan of Mercedes Benz. After owning one I still feel much the same.
Pretty ordinary cars in my view.

Competent is not a negative description... That S Class is good cruiser and with the Hydropnuematic suspension and 6.9 V8, can be hustled cross country an a very effective manner 8)
