I'm curious if anyone knows what exactly Vx did to detune the 2.5 engine to the 131bhp? My mechanical friend tells me that there were 2 different 2.5 engines put in the BMWs... One was a 131bhp in the TD and the other was 143bhp in the TDS models.
So am i right in thinking that the Omega and lesser spec BMW engines are pretty much the same with the only difference being in the TDS model BMWs?
Anyone know the difference between the TD and TDS models?

About 12 bhp ::)
Sorry, couldn't resist...
Isn't the Tds a four valve head :-\

Dunno thats why I'm asking... Just thinking outside the box and NO I don't want to buy a BMW instead lol

I think i've found the answer to my own question... The F/L Omega got the Y25DT which was the higher powered BMW engine at 148bhp! Win. :y

I think the Y25DT lump was only available in the LHD Opel Omegas mate :-\

Bloody Wikipedia! ::)
Back to square one then...
So what IS the difference between the X25DT and the Y25DT...?

Was going to add, I had a Hyundai 2.5 4 pot diesel in my boat, rated to 65 bhp... the more powerful version was physically identical, but rated at 85 bhp... the difference? Mine only revved to 3000 rpm, tother to 4000 rpm...
If it's a mechanical throttle, that might be the difference, but if it's electronic then a simple remap should do it :y
Also the Y25DT lump is defo 24 valve, and detuned from the BMW version by about 20 bhp iirc :y
Again Landy/Range Rover might provide a UK source for one and its ancilliaries :-\

I had a BM 325TDSE that I used pot around in moons ago Paul, good little runners when they weren't breaking down, smoking, leaking oil and pissing fuel all over the place.
As you say same straight 6 tractor engine, but the S / SE had a bit more power, made a big difference as well, as far as I know was only difference was the Oil Cooler and a different map in the ECU, did hear once that the Turbo was slightly bigger as well but never got that bit confirmed. Mine was remapped up to about 180 bhp (Robann Techniks from memory), again just a tighter Map on the ECU and Boost pressure changes, did bloody fly though and really good on fuel, but the 325 were a lot lighter than the Omegas.
Appart from the Engine, the other difference was the SE were lowered, slightly stiffer suspension and had a different body kit around the bottom which was colour coded to the rest of the car rather than being unpainted grey / black.
A said good runners when they worked, but as most BM's when the pack up, the do it in style.
You can get up to 200bhp out of the SE Lumps by messing with the Map and Boost Pressure but they dont last long in that form if abused or not maintained correctly.

Good to know, thanks Chris :y

Nice to see you're not fed up of the Turbo Weasel yet, mate!
Of course it's your car now, but I'd go for changing fluid and filters, check the state of the leakoffs, get that battery taken back to Vx, get it swapped as it's still under warranty for another few weeks (might as well = 6 years out of a 3 yr warranty) bottle of injector cleaner, then get it checked at a tracking/geometry place, as I'd hate it to eat your new tyres when you fit the. Then look at the chipping route when you've sourced an AR35 :y
Glad you got back safe n sound, have fun!

Same M51DT lump, possibly with differing ancilliary units/bracketry for the Omega application.
Power outputs differ by mapping.

Vx designations were U25DT (non EGR) and X25DT (EGR). Both being 128 BHP.
