Title: I'm worried....I may need help.
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 26 April 2015, 11:29:07
I've been googling information on the Insignia lately and thinking......hmmm.....perhaps.....maybe. :-\

I find the bloated lump of metal that is the Insignia far from attractive (especially when stuck behind it's fat arse in a traffic jam).......but the 2.0 turbo and the 2.8 V6 turbo can
picked up quite cheaply.

Hmmm.......perhaps...maybe. :-\

I shall lie down in a darkened room until the madness passes because the Insignia is the visual equivalent of the fat bird in the chip shop, the one with the moustache and the blotchy legs.

Please let it be no more than a bad dream.
 :( :D ;D

What? Estate only? I think it's useable. And as I keep saying I love the interior.

saloon.... No. Definitely not.

But is the estate any good as an estate...?

[wisper mode on] a quick pm from the sales dept to the good Dr might work[whisper mode off] ;D

Lol ;D

£16000 for something that has been beaten to a pulp with the ugly stick. No thanks.

Half that amount is too much for a five year old Insignia.

How much do you want to get shot of yours, Al?..... :)

True ;D

Mine looks like that, but in white and is cheaper to fuel and insure than that rather tasty black one.

The VXR saloon I test drove actually had to stop for fuel during a five mile test ;D

Went very well though ::)

I know of a white 4x4 estate which will be available later in the summer... very good B road car and equally fine as cruiser 8)

So let me get this right, Al.

The car is a 2.0 Turbo estate but with AWD rather than FWD?

How many miles and how much finance?

I think given a choice between an equivalent Insignia and Mondeo, I'd go for the Mondeo.  :y

Not so long ago I had a test drive in a Mondeo ST 220 estate. I think my particular example may have been 'off colour' because it didn't feel as though it had anything like 220 horses at it's disposal.

In gear performance was poor and it required lots of welly before the engine came alive.

Torquey it was not. :-\

Hmmmm......sporty and estate just isn't right. It might be a bit tasty when empty, although the stiff rear suspension necessary for load bearing would make the back end skittish, but fully laden? No, not in my book.

I had a cortina Mk5 2.3 ghia estate, it was very fast, when empty, and ideal for leaving most of your tyres on the road without going anywhere.  ;D

Edited for accuracy.

Mk 4 or Mk 5 I never could tell the difference. :-\

Will someone with an anorak please enlighten me.

Doesn't really matter if MK4 or 5, they all got through their void bushes at about the same rate as Omega's get through wishbone bushes....

Me too!  :y  I drove mine around Australia and all I did to it was flush the rad along the way and fit a couple of new headlight bulbs!  :y

It was an Auto, but had no second gear.  ::)  So the knack was to red line it in first and then it would slide straight into top and away we went!  ;D

Insignias are really nice in my opinion. Well, what I mean by that is they look nice. Never driven tone or even dar in one.

They are hideous, Mr Bear. ;D

They look like half decent car wearing a 'fat suit'. All bloated and blubbery.

I used to have a mk5 1600 estate, my boss had a mk5 V6 Saloon, he often used to want to swop, I was more than happy to do so, loved that car............ :y :y

If you do decide to buy an Insignificant then don't do what the old man did and replace his Omega Turbo Weasel (which I bought, now in the hands of fellow OOFer) with an SRi. Not saying certain SRis aren't good ones to get but this is frankly low-specced, has en engine which neither does much to the gallon nor shifts particularly well. I assumed it had the fancy changy-air suspension thing like the VXRs, but no. No heated seats, no eleccy blind, no dual zone climate control, seats are quite nice, ride is both hard and frankly my old barge of a V6 with its MV6 springs and brand new B4s would give it a run for its money.

We owned a Cav SRi many years ago and frankly am convinced the Cav is the better car. Shifted like a spanked stoat, looked a fair bit swish, Recaros as standard,. Managed to have poverty spec, not even alloys (it was a pre-facelift F '89) but in pearlescent red and a nice bit of red pinstriping it just felt 'right.

Can't say any Insignificant isn't a good car, plenty are, and one day I may well own one, just get one that's good, something with a turbo, or an Elite, or a VXR. Friend has an Elite Estate and that's damn good, he preferred it to the XF he was thinking of buying.

My Sri has full sports leather, auto lights, Bluetooth, climate control, heated front seats (drivers with ventilation fans), parking sensors front and rear, flex ride and four wheel drive, so not too poorly equipped ::)

If only... :'(

On the flip side, it's more frugal than the petrol one, by about 10 mpg :D and about 20 mpg better than the VXR :-X

160 bhp so no slouch once it's in its sweet spot 8)

Soot chucker. :-\

I briefly experienced a tinge of excitement when I believed it to be the 220 BHP turbo petrol jobbie.

Nice car though.
