Title: What oil
Post by: Terbs on 29 April 2015, 12:22:20
Hi all...

Having three omega's needing oil changes, I am looking for a good oil. I presume Vauxhall is the best and have seen some oil on the bay, which is advertised as Genuine Vauxhall, and is £64.99 for 20 litres.
I've put the link in....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-GM-Vauxhall-5w30-Dexos-2-Long-life-oil-20-Ltrs-/301523782871?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item463437ccd7

Would this be ok....is the price ok. Do people get the containers and fill them with crap :o

It'll be genuine and probably bought through trade club at the dealer. I can't remember how much it was the last time I bought 5w30. I tend to use 10w40 in my cars.

Will an ABS card work?

Not being funny but for us without tc facilities £14.99 from local factors is cheap enough for 5ltr 10/40 semi skim  :y I know if you have tc you will get it cheaper but hardly worth crying over eh  ;)

If we all clubbed together someone could go hire a truck and deliver 20 litres to us all using their tc  :P ;D

You need a trade card. Via abs it's all the same.

If the part isn't on trade club they often give you trade.

Obviously some parts are still outrageously expensive like plug leads and wishbones, but we have alternatives for those. Etc etc.....

See this thread: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=129798.0
You should be able to get it for about £35 for the 20L drum of Trade Club Oil even without TC. Just ring and ask for a price of their 20L Trade Club Oil, get his name or reference, then go and pick it up. :y

Yep... read that thread and you'll find you get it for £35 with no trade club, and if you are on trade club like me, then you get it for £38!!  :o

Either way, very good quality oil, at a very good price.  :)

I use the Halfrauds 5w30 stuff now, and just buy a load when it's on offer at £10/4L. Seems to pop up every 6 months or so.

Would do, but unfortunately I have to be very careful with my back......to cut a story short, I had disc problems with 9 months off work and having to learn to walk again. So am very, very wary on weights. Kids live 50 miles away :(

Only in Aldershot and it's less hassle to pick up a shed load when the 'frauds have a sale, TBH.

Yes, they seem to do one on Boxing day and another about this time of year, so keep an eye out. :y

I'd hope that given a smile or polite word, a member of staff would be kind enough to carry the drum to your boot, and then when home simply tipping the drum to pour off 5-6 litres into a smaller oil tub for the actual oil change would be easy enough. Anyone who has ever shifted a wardrobe/fridge etc knows that tipping the thing is very easy, compared with lifting with pure brute force. Back injuries much worse to live with than are given credit for, and you have my sympathy, hope you're 100% soon.  :)
