Title: Whine'y diff noise type thing ?
Post by: EMD on 29 April 2015, 13:19:27
On my mot it says rear wheel bearing slight whine . So had both rear bearings checked and no noise but the front nearside wheel bearing was knackered  :( Still got whine'y noise like diff sound ? Diff full of oil so lost as to what it is  :-\

Could it be something like prop bearing knackered  :-\

Sticking pads, poorly adjusted/sticking handbrake shoes/mech, diff worn, discs/drums worn, diff mounts worn, general drivetrain noise, sticky imagination...

Of course, it could simply be a wheel bearing ::)

Mine used to have a slight whine on over run, the bearing on the input to the diff had play in it. There's a rolling torque figure for it somewhere, but I just gently nipped it up till the play had gone, then did it again a few weeks later with with a bit of Locktite on the nut to stop it slackening of again  ;)

Fo the past 15+ years, my cars have gone for MOT at a MOT station that doesn't do repairs ...... financially, he couldn't give a monkey's whether it passes or not  ;)
