Title: Early 'plips' coding / compatability
Post by: Diamond Black Geezer on 30 April 2015, 22:46:58
So... what's involved in making a blank / brand new remote 'plip' / fob (one of these...)

...work to unlock my car? To 'reprogramme' one after a battery replacement, I'm pretty sure is a case of key in the ignition, then lock and unlock the car from the inside. (or something very similar - years since I've done it!) but not sure about when you get a replacement plip. The chip for the immobiliser is in the key and basically a separate system, but just hoping it's not a 'tech 2' job to get it a brand new one (or a second hand one?) to work on my Old Girl.

Haven't found any info on these earlier fobs, only later. I bow to your superior knowledge in advance  :y

Just wondering, much like there being two ways to replace an ignition barrel - the 'proper' way - take your car pass into Vauxhall, hand over a child, and owe a favour to the Luton mafia, for them to build you a new lock ... OR... get a second hand barrel and slip it it, ok it will be a different key to your door, but aside from that works fine. (also use the sliders from glovebox / get replacement sliders online)

I know there's a couple of different makes, too. Megamos and another one (Mine's megamos)

Mine needed to be plugged in to programme it, pressing the buttons with the key in the ignition only works with the original after a battery change not a replacement.

Fair do's  :)

Will look around for a good place to do it locally, failing that there's The Boy's excellent services, if I fancy a drive. Advantage that there's such things as a gearbox software update etc... could be done at the same time.
