Title: Used Diesel car prices to drop...
Post by: Shackeng on 03 May 2015, 15:07:58
... says the Sunday Times. I'm gutted, I was relying on getting a good price for mine. ::)

How the mighty have fallen.

Only a decade ago diesels were set to save the world from pollution with their low Co2 figures.

What that means, Chris, is that dealers will drop their prices slightly on used car stock, and drop the price they'll give you for your trade in.

Apparently nitrogen dioxide is the new bogey man.

Expect additional charges for parking and access to central London.

As to why they've dropped. . . Is it anything to do with the turbos needing replacing? We had 3 cars in last week that needed new turbos. Got my bear paws on one of them and there was so o o o o much play and oil everywhere.

Just wondering if that's one of the reasons?

No. It's cause they're killing people in towns and cities and the EU are getting twitchy. When the EU get twitchy it usually results in a half baked solution which costs someone a lot of money.

Yes.

I've never been seduced by the diesel dream.

Funny but true. We have a diesel because everything here is a diesel and manual.

Oh ok, fair enough. Just saying what I see  :y

I personally would never buy a diesel anyways. Don't like the noise. dont wanna buy a new turbo every so often. Dpf's etc.

N/A petrol every time fir me  :y

IMO , that means too long oil changes....its always worth dropping the sump Mr Bear to check the oil strainer for the turbo pickup.....if its crudded up......it'll be starving the turbo of oil.

I went through 2 turbos on the Skudo I had......garage eventually found a crudded up oil strainer to be the cause.....5000 miles later the engine went bang....

Mr DTM at the time remarked that if the turbo fails the engine wont be far behind!

I was doing stupidly long oil changes on it.....like every 20k  ::) :-[

My VRS is getting oil changes when it wants it.....10k miles....tho some would say that's to long too...

Oh ok fair points mate. I just assumed the bearings inside failed cos of the harsh job they have I.e. Spinning away at over 200k RPM.

You can buy an awful lot of litres of petrol for the cost of DPF, injector, turbo and high pressure fuel pump diesel repairs. ;)

Won't be long before all you can drive in cities is milk floats.

The Tesla version is reasonable enough.

You have a point Webby, these new diesels are fine brand spankers or low miles, but get 6 figures on them and they need turbos, dpfs, injection issues ect.

I'm sure all the diesel savings are wiped out by a turbo replacement, or similar.

If I loose the 2.2 LPG for what ever reason, I will strongly consider LPGing my 150k 3.2 as I don't think a diesel will be any cheaper in the budget I would have.

Also depends on how the turbo is treated, same applies to petrol engine turbos.
You should never rag a turbo engine and then turn the engine immediately off, you should give the turbo a chance to cool down otherwise you can do damage to the bearings  ;)

Friends of ours, she's just bought a Range Rover Evoke. He's just bought a 535 touring. Both very low miles. Some 75k worth of cars.

Both diesel.

Exactly what I was thinking. The cost of a turbo , for example, is ridiculous as it is let alone the labour cost. . . Especially when you see where some of them are tucked away!   :o
