...so, when I was finishing off my wheel nuts today, I made a little 'click-click' noise with the final grunt. Is that acceptable?

I guess that depends if the wheels fall off or not. Or weather you can get them undone again next time. Locking wheel nuts? Or is there honour amongst thieves round your way? ;D

The click click is metal on metal so yeah plenty tight enough... but it could also be your knees, its normally my back that makes noises like that when I stand up LOL

Best advice I heard was always put wheel nuts/studs on by pulling up, and undo by pushing down. Pull up as hard as you like, as tight as you feel comfy with, but that as you will always guarantee that they'll come undone again. :)
The 'click click' in this case may well have been a camera lens shutter of a pervert hiding in the bushes taking shots of your rear end as you were bending over your car. Keep an eye out, there are bad people out there :D

Torque upto "just before you shit yourself" then another 1/4 of a turn :D

Other way round, always put on but pushing down as the torque is limited by your body weight, undone by pulling up as you use the power of your legs muscles which are capable of lifting your body weight and some.
But either way, unless you use the wheel brace that comes with the car, you may well struggle at the side of the road

Never used a torque wrench on any wheel nuts in my entire life, never had any problems yet. ;)
Final last kick on the squeak seems to do the trick. :y
-
Take it to Quickflip , you will never get the nuts off again ;D

Ah, yes, that's the one! :y

OOF wheel nut torquing: official advice. . . .
Buy impact gun with at least 400nm of tightening force.
Blast nuts 'til you're satisfied they'll never come off again.
Admin please add to the recent tyre advice thread I posted :y

Always fancied having a torque wrench but couldn't justify cost versus usage angle. Then a few years ago was going round a local car boot sale and there was one up for sale,so I asked the woman how much it was and she didn't even know what it was!!Turns out it was her sons so I got it for £3!!Damn great tool it is too, both in size and uses I've since put it to!!

How often do they need calibrating?
Got two t. Wrenches and often wondered how far out if any they are.
Haven't used one in a while to be honest :-X

Not perhaps much of an answer, but got my brand new (calibrated and made in Britain) Halfords torque wrenches for Birthday, and compared them with my old man's donkeys years old 'bendy bar' type. Draper if memory serves. Which has been abused, knocked, bent, clouted and must be about 25 years old at least. We pretty much decided that it was between 5-10% out at the very most, which considering the age and life it's led we thought wasn't bad.
So I'd say - 'depends on the abuse' etc, and depends how precise you want to be, and what you consider to be 'far out'; but if I regularly used a tool and after 30 years found it to be maybe 5% 'wrong' (so I'll be in my 60s by such time) I'd be pretty happy with that. :y
