Title: Engine work at Billing?
Post by: Diamond Black Geezer on 14 May 2015, 10:34:25
As I've now sourced almost all the components I need for giving my beautiful lady 'Supertouring' spec engine, and Billing is not too far away I'm wondering if I attempted to swap the Cams over during Billing, would this be a stupid idea or actually a very logical one, given the vast number of Omega-savvy chaps (of which a fair few would be OOFers I suspect) which would be on-hand to point and laugh help out if when I get stuck.

What do we think? In theory the job is a couple of hours, especially with experienced hands.

Billing is a car show and social gathering really and the only work you normally see done is polishing.
I do see your point regarding the knowledge on hand though, so in theory it is possible.  :y

Most will not be dressed for tinkering with cars though and are with their families so you may end up working alone.  :-\

Take your points, chaps. I mean I'm one of them where if I see someone with their bonnet up I have to pop over to see if I can help, but many would be on their 'day off' so to speak.

I think the idea was, in part, born out of how Billing is for me. I enjoy it, and been going for over ten years, but last year I didn't bother. After so long I find myself wandering around seeing the same cars, the same stalls often with the same stock. I've turned up Friday and helped set up the ABS tent/flags etc for most of those years. In no way am I knocking the event / the people. It's the finest and biggest show of its type in the world, but this year I was hoping to just add something/ do something a bit different, maybe, as I'd hate to ever feel 'bored' at Billing. I do look forward to going, you know?

Was my first time at Billing last year , seen a few tinkering under bonnets/hoods but as YZ250 says most just spend a lot of time polishing . Personally i like to look at the older cars an spend time relaxing with the midges  ;D Will be staying 2 nights this year so plenty of time to browse the market stalls an meeting new members that we missed last year  ;D

I suspect that would happen, as opposed to having an engine modified Omega  :y
