Title: exhaust suppliers?
Post by: shyboy on 14 May 2015, 10:38:54
What is the current favourite source of 3.2 facelift saloon exhaust components, please? I think I read that OEM parts have diminished in quality.
Many thanks.

ETS from ebay vs Stainless steel for the life of the car

Current crop of GM system is not as good as the original twin walled clamshell as you already know however it's still better than a lot of pattern exhausts. But for the money it's not worth shyte and I'd be looking at stainless steel personally

As SMD says, although I think stainless would be too loud. I went ETS and quite happy overall for the price. It appears to be lasting very well  :y

Many thanks for that. I think stainless might be a bit OTT for me.

Hi Shyboy, long time no see!

ETC is my preferred option at the moment as the quality is very good, centres are available as the clam shell design, they generally fit well, delivery is pretty quick and the price very reasonable.

The only issue will be the fitting kits are a bit naff but the only parts you usually need are the bolt for centre to front pipe joints.

Hi Mark. It has been a long time since I could spend as much time as I would like on Omega matters, but I have been watching the Forum with great interest.
Thanks for your comments. Just got to get the energy to get under the damn thing again.
Kind regards,
Bill.

Ets/Eternal from eBay(sigh).

Yet to see a Stainless one that I would actually fit to my car. Loud, droning, and restrictive as they all seem to feel flat on power. Usually as the centre section if 2 into 1, rather than two straight through which I guess is expensive. But whatever the reason, Ets every time for me. ....although I don't need the end silencer as the Irmscher bumper dictates an Irmscher back box.

Either ETS or External here - one of each on my 2 Omegas. Better quality than what exhaust places fit, and good price. Both have rather poor "fitting kits", so be prepare to outlay another few quid at your local store for clamps and rubbers if needed.

Post by: TheBoy on 15 May 2015, 18:49:19
And I too have yet to see a stainless I could tolerate.

Although, thinking back on old posts, the jeta system would be worth a look, as Yz250 has. It's no good for me as the diameter won't marry up to the Irmscher stuff, but it's a nice system and not at all loud, just nice.

Not cheap though.

Its Jetex BTW and the price is £530.  :o   If the cost was reasonable, the massive 80mm twin tailpipes would still put me off from buying one.

Longlife exhausts can replicate the OE system (with two centre sections) and the cost is £300-£350, a few members have them. Mr Hagon (an ex member now) said the noise, whilst louder than twin wall GM (no surprise there) it was tolerable.

Hi Fella long time no hear I hope things are good with you are you still in Southport

Nope. Seen a few long life and power flow, and I wouldn't.... Well, as said really. Poorly fixed, poorly lined up, random odd bends and more importantly, loud and absolutely key... Flat. Flat as a witches tit.

Having said that, yet to drive one with a true twin pipe system. ...actually thats a lie, I have one in the garage. Came off the mv6. It's oppsing rubbish.

It's mated to an Irmscher twin sides back box so no good to anyone without the bumper.

Oh, and absolutely ALL of the stainless hand made ones have clamps cut off the cats. So if you want to go back to a normal system, you can't, without fitting new cats. A truly shocking carry on IMO. A way of tieing customers in, and means you can't sell it as the likelyhood of the cuts being in the right place are about a million to one.

Thanks for all the info. gentlemen. It's always a great help to get expert opinion on things about which I know very little.  :'(
Hi Tony. I'm pretty good for someone with 250000 on the clock. Still in Southport, still got two Omegas, and still creak each time I bend to look underneath.
Hope you're well. Best way to find out is to call in at Redgate and buy one of your pies, which I might do sometime soon.
Regards,
Bill.

I may be wrong but it doesn't look like the clamps were cut off this one and it is a two pipe system. http://oldsite.omegaowners.com//forum/YaBB.pl?num=1301696512

Would I have one? Probably not. But then I don't like the look of short Eternal/ETS exhaust tips and trims look chavvy. Is there a happy medium?

Aftermarket back box? if not too chavy as you rightly say.

Irmscher have stock... If your wallet allows ::)

Might invest in one for the white one as the cheapy one currently fitted looks a bit, er, mincy :-\

Problem with irmscher backbox is if not used with irmscher bumper then tailpipes stick out too far! Otherwise I do like the double D box. What's the retail and best place to get one?
Title: Re: exhaust suppliers?
Post by: 05omegav6 on 16 May 2015, 07:10:41
Irmscher.de and about €600... Irmscher.com/uk is same figure but £ not € :-\

Well... you did ask  ::)
Title: Re: exhaust suppliers?
Post by: SMD on 16 May 2015, 14:29:06
Yes but £600! I had to be sure. You can get a full system for less!  :o

What so special about this Irmscher stuff?
Title: Re: exhaust suppliers?
Post by: 05omegav6 on 16 May 2015, 14:59:23
It looks good, fits perfectly and lasts well :y

Clearly the fits perfectly part doesn't really apply to the side skirts :-X

But, the saloon one currently available is diesel only, and the petrol estate one is currently only the split exit one...

Had seen them listed on the Irmscher site in passing, but looking closely choice of application isn't great :-\

Question... Could we not just contact remus and ask for them to make us a couple
Title: Re: exhaust suppliers?

What's the remus box like? When I searched irmscher here remus came up a few times.

Not sure of the technical partnership between remus and irmscher but on my irmscher back box it has remus stamped on it. So I would say remus built them under licence for remus.

Thanks for all the info.
I'm not able to get under the car to check at the moment, so could someone confirm that the centre sections I need are Part nos. 1162 and 1163 on the ETS shop site.
Many thanks.

For the price and ease of fitting, buy the complete system, front to back. :y

Anybody got the link to either ETS or Eternal as need to order up both mid sections and having difficulty locating either via ebay or google.

Assume the 3.0 is the choice for a 3.2...and are they cylindrical or clam shape silencers.

Thanks guys :y

I'm running ETS clamshell type exhaust and very happy with. Gives a nice note, though that's compared with ,y previous car, a 2.5 TD with a blowing exhaust  ;D... still think it sounds good. Damn good price, that, too.

Both sides ordered and for the saving might even be tempted to pay somebody to fit them save me getting dirty and messing about under the car with jacks/stands and no doubt drill  >:(

Thanks for links and info guys  :y
