Any help would be appreciated!!! My 2002 2.6 V6 108000 miles on the clock has developed gearbox problems. Engine sometimes over revs and misses a gear, this is normally accompanied by a loud clunk and spanner light comes on but not always. Pedal trick showed code 1700 so first solution was to drain and refill gearbox. Fault is still there and seems to occur mainly when accelerating uphill or away from roundabouts. Before I consign it to the garage for a Tech check any other suggestions would be welcome.

First question will always be did you change the fluid as per guides? i.e. fluid level topped up with the engine running, did you cycle the gears then re check?

Yes. Refill carried out as per maintenance guide. Also forgot to mention the filter was changed as well.

Filter can be washed out for anyone else reading. To late for the op though.
Unless tech 2 shows a gear box solenoid code it might be swap the box out time. Excess flair (reving ) signifies loss of drive when it should be in gear. Rarely ends well of not a solenoid. Although it's usually 2/3 gear solenoid, too high a speed range ofulling away from roundabouts.
If it's in gear and loosing drive, ie not at a shift point, and not low fluid, that's bad.
If it's loosing drive while trying to change gear, that's still bad but might be a solenoid.

Thanks. Guess it's it a tech2 check next. How easy to change the solenoid?

*if* your lucky and it is a solenoid, big sump off reveals the valve body, locate the correct one, unbolt and undo electrical plug and swap over.
Be prepared to go through all this and still have to swap the box out though :(
