As above really, how do you sort out tax etc if working for 2 or 3 different companies?................ ;) ;)

Tax return ;)
Or just pay BR on the jobs other than your main one

I thought that was for self-employed, oh and what do you mean by BR.......... :-[ :-[

I'm intrigued too ???

basic rate ....... 8) :y

....
I thought that was for self-employed, .....
I used to get one of them every year when at Halls Sweets, though on PAYE the local tax office sent us one cos we used to pay some tax at the higher rate :(
-
So if I pay BR on all work, I should get a Tax Rebate each year, because I am allowed to earn £10500 before paying tax........... :-\ :-\
I wont have a main employer, well I might but not sure at the moment, depends on who will give the most 'core' hours; so far 3 applications = 3 interviews, one offer and 2 to go, and just sent off another application tonight........... :y

Could you not just get a non cumulative code for the other jobs? So your first/main job would be cumulative, allowing you to have the tax free allowance, the other ones wouldnt.

That might be an option, making the job with core hours the primary one, they are all Zero Hour Contracts, but 2 have potential for core hours, sounds like a plan, thanks............... :y :y

I thought you always paid 40% on your earnings at your second job and then claimed back any excess through the tax return. At least that is how I do it.

Tax return is simplest, paying Base Rate on all bar 1 job. This means you shouldn't find yourself in a position where you have underpaid.
Tax return is easy to fill in as all income is earned so just use the figures from your P60s.

Thanks LD, I am just about to launch into Semi Retirement, and a number of Zero hour contracts, if anyone wants me exclusively they need to provide me with some 'core hours' otherwise I go where the work is; 2 more interviews next week............. :y :y

Talking as someone who employs Bar Staff, all of which have other jobs.....HMRC already have their details, and when I start anyone else, I require all their details (not other employment) Ni number, D.O.B, name and address. This is forwarded to HMRC and they send us any relevant tax code, and they are taxed accordingly. :y

Thanks Terbs, that sounds good, I guess that the worst that could happen is I pay to much tax and get a rebate at the end of the year. It would be better if I could go self employed, but sadly that will not be the case............ :y :y

The system must work, Mike, because apart from people with two or more jobs, we also have some 'retired' people. Some have codes as basic rate tax, as their pensions are more than the allowance, and we have others who are under the allowance, and I stop no tax. And others who have a code, of nil tax, but they can be taxed according to the tax tables, when they earn more than usual and that takes them to above the limit. And occasionally, they pay no tax but get a rebate. Does that make sense :y
Should also say that all these employees do receive a P60 from us at the end of the tax year :y
-
From what I remember your tax free allowance is on your main job and the you pay basic rate on the other(s), and then you`ll have to claim back any over paid tax with a tax return, which you can do online and is easy. :y
-
As confirmation, Mike, I have just done the May salaries, and one person paid no tax, another paid less tax, and another, a pensioner, got a rebate. All others paid basic rate. :y
All staff are on 'second or more' jobs, or as well as a pension :y
Good luck with your venture/s :y
