Only 55, found at home dead, no suspicious circumstances.
Losing seat as MP was meant to have badly affected him.
-
Way too young, awful for his wife & son seemed a decent fellow.RIP.
-
One of the few of his kind who seemed to be driven by his own conviction instead of greed. Also seemed a genuinely nice bloke. The best die young, it seems.
-
such a shame at that age..god bless,,Charles..
-
Good bloke. 55 puts us all on notice. Well me at least. RIP
-
He had a wife and a young son
He was also a friggin alcoholic who drunk himself into a early grave to leave his wife to bring up a young son without a father ...............
If he was getting treatment and on the wagon then fair enough but if he was still pouring whiskey down his neck the he is a selfish bastard, nothing else >:(

. Personally speaking I have never met a perfect human being, we all have faults or secrets that even our nearest & dearest may know nothing about at 55 years of age he should be looking forward to an early retirement perhaps ,not lying in a box being slagged off .

Agreed. Let he without sin, etc...
He took the extraordinary step for a public figure of being honest about seeking help for his problems with alcohol once they started to affect his public life. It's not as if drinking oneself to death is a "lifestyle choice" for most.
I don't recall his passing being linked to alcohol in the first place. ::)

I just remember the time when he took the Lib Dems to their then-highest level of power, largest proportion of votes, he then came out as having been an alcoholic, but was now off it, and getting better. Then gets booted out as leader of the Party. Such is Politics, sadly.
If you live for politics, if it is your passion, and you are trying to do good, just consider what losing your seat as an MP would do to you, mentally-speaking. All I've had in my head since hearing the news is that story of Churchill, where, upon losing the general election sat with his aid (butler/ aid/ valet/ personal assistant, I regret I forget the specific job title and the man) and he is said to have slumped to the ground, and said "and now the British people don't want me any more" and they both wept together. Such a sad tale and I for one can imagine a not-dissimilar scene at Charles Kennedy's house a few weeks ago.
-
For a politician he seemed like a thoroughly decent man and I've been a bit sad that many of the obits have focused on his demons. :(
Very very sad for his family. RIP. :'(

RIP Charles Kennedy

So what killed him?...... ??? ???
Heart attack?
Stroke?
On the job?

......
They were already divorced

I assume not the latter as he was found by his new girlfriend.

I mean, presumably it wasn't old age that killed him.

Oh well, its just me then :-\
Sorry if i've insulted anybody so much that they are having doubts about life itself.
It certainly wasn't my intention folks :)
I suppose I could never get my head around all this anal internet grieving and R.I.P blubbing you get on forums for somebody who they never knew or knew very little about other then the crap / propaganda I read in the papers / internet or see on the TV.
As for the alcoholic bit .................. Personally, over the years i've drunk far too much, eaten far too much, smoked and done plenty of stupid things in my youth.
18 months ago, I got a lecture from my only son (as far as I know :D) along the lines of he didn't want me eating / drinking (I stopped smoking a few years ago) myself to death and if I gave a shit about him (my son) then i'd sort myself out :-[ :-[
Well I stood there for a moment deciding whether to take his head off or burst into tears :-X
I chose a 3rd option of being man enough to listen and learn from him ;)
In the last 18 months, i've lost 25% of my body weight (I hit 20 stone :-[)
I drink maybe once or at a push, twice a week now.
I eat 3 meals a day and nothing else and probably do 10 times the physical exercise that I did 2 years ago.
Do you know something, I feel like I did 25 years ago and its great :)
Having kids is a ficking honour (not a route to benefits) and I do believe everybody should change there lifestyle if needed when you have kids.
Whether Charles Kennedy was still married to his wife of not, he had a young son and that should have been more then enough reason to sort himself out :)
All in my opinion of course :)

Just a word from me, in no way felt 'offended' by your comments, and wasn't taking exception to your opinion, and fully respect it :)
In fact if we can say anything of celebrity, it's that someone could appear to be the cuddliest, kindest public figure, and be a truly horrible person; or a nasty piece of work to the populous but actually a decent person behind closed doors. As you rightly say, we didn't know him, know him.
One of my personal mottos is 'a bad man never died' - seriously, no-one ever has a bad word to say about anyone upon their passing, out of 'respect' or 'decency' etc... well fact is fact, and shouldn't be altered through 'PC-ness'.
Also personal congrats for shifting so much weight and clearly being a force for good in yours/others' lives. Again, no offence caused at my end, :y
(PS Lagondanet's reply above is a little more succinct and to the point, and not a waffling ramble, like mine is :))
