Title: TV aerial for camping
Post by: Taxi_Driver on 05 June 2015, 17:37:38
OK, so I like to take a portable tv when I go camping   ::)

I had been using an indoor aerial, which worked fine....but in the last couple of years of going to Dorset its been useless....its not the aerial....its the signal strength. Proved by 1) I use the same indoor aerial in my tv in my bedroom and that tv picks up over 120 freeview channels...and 2) I asked last year in a tv shop in Dorset last year...why I was having problems....and their answer was 'we've stopped selling indoor aerials as you carnt get a picture with them anymore'

So I've been looking about for an outdoor aerial on a tripod arrangement, that I could peg down and go to a height of 12ft or so .... but I haven't seen anything suitable that isn't stupid money....

Best Ive seen so far is this .... which is an aerial on suction cups that I could attach to the car window...

Not high enough really......but im struggling to find any else suitable.....

Thought I would ask here, as someone might have the sort of thing im looking for and be able to point me in the right place  :y

True....the bar at Highlands End site has many TV's as well, but im not going there this year.......and its not open at 8am/9am....when I like to catch up on the news. Plus its not quite the same as vegging out for an hour at 10/11pm with a glass of wine and a smoke before hitting the zzzzz'ssss. Before hand I'll be in a pub of course  :y

I think the site is a bit closer to you Sir Tigg..... Nearest pub is the The Anchor  :y

Ah yes lovely pub that.  8)  They recently refurbished it and I doubt they have TV there.  :-\

Internet?  Tether lappy or get a dongle?  You can watch Eastenders on iplayer to your hearts content then.  :P  ;D

Do you go on sites with electric hook up? Some hook up points have a TV socket.

Trouble is, it'll always be variable, as you can never tell how near you will be to the local relay etc, and what the geography is like.

If I *needed* telly, and streaming wasn't an option, I think I'd take a pole and a proper aerial.  Or a Freeview dish on a pole.

Yes, well, I will be this year, but it doesn't mention anything about tv points, just mentions 10amps for the hook up.

That's what im trying to do....I was looking for a tripod type affair that had a 12ft or so pole attached.....but im struggling to find something suitable.....hence why I was looking at a proper aerial on rubber suction to attach to the car window as an idea, but its not very high up....maybe 5ft  :-\

Buy a cheapo rotary camping washing line, take the gubbings off it, and you have a stakeable tripod you could attach the aerial to.

I have just bought one of these...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAXVIEW-B2012-Compact-Log-Periodic-UHF-TV-Aerial-Jockey-Wheel-Mast-Kit-Caravan-/130781651963?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1e7331a3fb

Tho I didn't pay that price  :o I paid £17.50 for it  :y

Then im thinking of using one of these to attach it to

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Satellite-dish-tripod-mount-stand-for-camping-touring-caravan-Sky-Freesat-pegs-/370998521031?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item56613c2cc7

Should be ok I think, tho I might have get another jockey wheel clamp so that it has two attached to make it more stable  :-\
