Hi all.
My computer is running badly so I was going to re-install Windows 7 but my disc is damaged. Does anyone know where I could get a replacement?
Or can I borrow a copy from anyone?
TIA. :y

Tried system restore?

If it was a retail version, the media is downloadable from MS. If it was an OEM version, you need to contact the manufacturer.

I contacted Microsoft UK and they said they would send a replacement but they said the p&p would be £16.
I can't afford that at the moment.

Any Windows 7 disk will do as long as it's the same version (Home/Pro/Ultimate) - they're all the same.
What matters is the key that you type in during installation - the thing on the sticky hologram label that you're supposed to fix to the outside of the PC where it can be destroyed, damaged, and defaced so that when you need to re-install the OS you cant read the damn thing.

Thanks. I've got the right disc but it's all scratched.

As long as you have the product number at hand you can use any disc, download or borrowed and use your Windows product number to verify as long as its the same product, ie Windows 7 home/ premium etc

/panto mode
Oh no they're not
Most disks have all marketing version (Basic, Home, Home Premium, Pro, Ultimate etc on there (although in many cases you need a bit of file tweaking to allow you to select)), but the Retail, OEM, Preinstall, MSDN, Open Licence etc etc are all different disks.

Tell me what version, I can point you in the right location to download from MS. If OEM, you need to talk to your manufacturer.
How did the disk that you never use get scratched ???

Does anyone have any recommendations for good security software? Is F-secure any good as I can get that free with Virgin?

Microsoft's free one is good enough, then just do a free Malwarebytes scan once a week / month. ;)
