Quick question, in the guide to changing the oil cooler it says to take of the oil filter but doesn't say if you need to drain the sump, any ideas guys?

All has been going well, got all the way down to the oil cooler plate and realised I needed to take of the two unions above the oil filter, trouble is I have the newer style filter and the housing is in the way, what can I do, is there any way to move the oil filter housing? Please help as I'm stuck now and the new part arrives tomorrow.
I have included a pic if that helps...

The housing is held in with a 12mm (I think, possibly 10mm) allen key straight down the centre.

12mm.
Some use a hollow 27mm hex head instead....
Make sure you renew the seal on the filter housing to block join or you will get leaks

Thanks for all the advice guys its been excellent, couldn't of done this without it. Just trying to get hold of a crows foot 19mm but Halfords don't stock them anymore, nout in B&Q or my local motor factors, now i'll be looking at eBay.

If you have a branch of Machine Mart nearby, they will probably have crows foot spanners.
When I have done this job I haven't undone the pipes down by the filter. I gently bend them up out of the way (waits to get shot down in flames :D ).
Im not recommending you do that though as it is a gamble. Theres always the possibility of the pipes cracking, which gives you an even bigger headache. ;)

Ordered a set of crows feet off eBay for £15.99, should arrive Thursday/Friday, the cooler arrives tomorrow but I'm in no rush as my poor fingers are cut and scraped to hell so they could do with a break, all holes are plugged so no worries there.
I drained the coolant earlier and didn't see any oil come out, just the greeny blue coolant, I can only assume the gunk is stuck inside the pipes and needs some proper coolant flush to get it out.

I saw a set in Machine Mart recently from 10mm to 19mm I think . . .they looked pretty good for about £18 I think
They did also have a set at around £40 & another at £150+ :o :o
but the amount of use they will get the sub £20 set looked OK to me ::) ::)
EDIT: Ah must type faster . . . I see you have already ordered :y

Machine Marts set have done me fine - not something I use often...

plase do not bend the pipes mate, they can split or the seal on to the oil cooler unions can be a bugger to fit when you refit. Not gonna shoot you down mig as this is an option but not recommend.
