Time to replace the brake pads to rear(advisory on mot) of my 2.6 saloon, any tips or things to look out for when ordering? When i looked to order it mentioned braking systems is this important?Brake sensor require special pads because Mintex sounded good make.My apologies for my amateurishness but want to get it right 1st time. Thanks

Mintex gets mixed reviews here, mostly are poor.
Personally, I would fit GM TC pads or Pagid (as EuroCarParts is near me).
Sensor, yes you should really fit them, however I've never had much luck keeping them intact. So I've cut mine and fused the wires together, as the wheels come off often enough to check visually :y
-
Did mine with Pagid about a month ago - no complaints so far :y
Thought about fitting Eicher, but for the sake of £4.50 for pads and £5 per disc, I went with a company I'd heard of!
;D
-
Pagids from Europarts :) fitted on mine as well last year
-
no wear sensors at the back ;)
-
I fit mintex often at work. As for fitment almost every time I end up taking the paint off the edges as they seem to over paint the backing plate. Not saying that's going to be a problem on the rears of the omega but I dislike them for that reason.
We've just started using vetech pads. Fitment is awesome.
For omega I've used pagid and they seem fine

Only one at front on nearside and a RPITA to get out without breaking :y
-
Where's your sense of fun? ::)

Same here. I'm pleased with them. :y

GM trade club pads :y
-
Well thanks for the info,if I was in the trade club GM might be an option, but as I thought Mintex was a brand i'd heard of and would be quality its surprising bearing in mind the cost that some of the other makes seem to be better.I could replace the disc I know the fronts were done by the garage how to tell when rear needs changing?I had the wheels off and the old pads are about 5mm but the disc not to bad, a bit rusty around the outside with maybe a 2mm groove wear the pads have cut in,is that good or bad?
-
Pagid here also :y

Ebc ultimax on my white one...

When I had oe brakes, they had oe pads.
TV pads are....ok, for the money.
But do oe pads justify the price? No. They are better, but not that much better.
-
I could supply you new QH rear discs with VX pads. PM me if interested

Keith B... I had already inbox'd him to contact you to get these.😊

GM pads on TC are around £10 for rears and £15 for fronts (probably plus VAT).
They are a known, tested entitiy, and work very well on all Omegas.
Mintex pads are shite. End of.

Tc pads are....ok, for the money.
But do oe pads justify the price? No. They are better, but not that much better.
Corrected ::)
...and yes Tc pads from GM, are £14 odd and work. Some dust, some very slight squeal sometimes in some cases, but they work. Reliably.
Oe pads have less dust and proper riveted shims so don't squeal, and have better pedal feel with better bite. But cost 4-5 times as much if you can get trade on them. Otherwise they are a too expensive, but are the best pads I've had.
You pays your money, etc. :)

Not sure its luck of the draw, but OE seem dusty now as well. She has done 80 miles since I washed it (and changed the pads) and the front wheels had a good layer of brake dust. Or she drives like a bloody lunatic, which she denies ;D. Previous set were dusty as well.
To other people reading, I run one car (the one I use) on TC pads, and other (the one she uses) on OE. Both pads seem to have equal stopping power, both easily have the capacity to fire the ABS in the dry at very high speed. TC ones tend to need a bit of heat in them to become effective, which means the first application on a journey can feel like they are ineffective. Traditionally, TC ones created a lot of brake dust, but now not convinced there is that much difference. TC ones often need anti squeal grease and a chamfer filed on leading edge, OE rarely do.
OE are probably a bit better (esp for initial 'bite', more so when cold), but not worth the extra price IMHO. Which is made worse then I tend to throw pads away at half worn, as their heat dissipation ability reduces, but not everyone will use their brakes to that extent.
We, on OOF, have proved time and time again that TC pads are suitable for all, can take a good beating, and are very competitively priced on TC. This is why so many of us recommend them. A few of us have tried the big name pads, like Mintex mentioned earlier, and been disappointed with them when used in a spirited manner. With TC ones being a known, good option, and competitively priced, why ever choose anything else?

Oe are best but expensive although give x 2 life of tc pads.Tc are good allround but dusty and lack initial bite from cold.Pagid have good bite from cold but are dusty and wear out fast approx 12 k for the fronts....take your choice

I just keep an eye out for OE ones and buy them when at the right price. :y

Yes it's worth keeping an eye on ebay. I bought a set of OE for £9 delivered a couple of years ago. :y

The pads will be the same, but pins and springs too short for a 2.6. Reuse old pins and springs
