I have recently removed the standard Philips radio and have attempted to fit a new Pioneer. Physically the 2 radios are the same size, but, I am unable to fit it properly. I spoke to Vauxhall about it and they advised me that I should be able access the back of the radio and pull the wiring back and out of the way, allowing it to fit properly by removing the glove box. I tried this but found that there is no access at all once the glove box is completely removed. Does anyone have any idea how I can get the radio fully home instead of sticking out proud of the dash by about 20 mm

If original was housed in a cage, remove it totally.

As RobG says - remove the original cage first.
After that VX are correct that removing the glove box helps - it is still difficult though :(
You need to pull any excess cables out of the way (downwards from memory) as the head unit is pushed home .

As the others say remove the cage first, you don`t need to remove the glovebox, when you look into the aperture with the cage removed there is enough room in the bottom left corner to stuff any excess wiring and connectors, it`s right next to the glovebox ;)
My Kenwood went in quite easy with the adapter harness and the patch lead :y
