Last Saturday afternoon I'd got spare time sorted but the wind-especially the gusts-were too high to risk having the bonnet up for any length of time.So got spare time today and it's raining! Will I ever get those plug wells emptied and the cam covers changed?Who knows! The weather always seems to be great whenever I have no spare time but as soon as I do it all goes to pot!!Starting to get really fed up of it now.

Stick a broom handle under the bonnet if the struts are a bit soft.
But yes it does seem to be fine mid week and raining at the weekend.

sunshine again next week :)

Oh,thanks swordfish.Rub it in why don't you? lol The bonnet struts seem ok chris ,although with the strength of the gusts I'm not sure they'd have held the bonnet open. With the car parked as it is the gusts were hitting from the front and trying to flex the bonnet backwards and I didn't want to risk possible damage that way.Just want to get cam covers sorted so hopefully can attend Billing.

I had an old Mk2 granny saloon many moons ago and it had a black rubbery boot spoiler on it. Had to use a broom handle on it to hold the boot open (even on a still day) or i might have decapitated myself. Happy days. :y

You could reset the hinge springs to allow for that ::)

Back to the Omega, All German now have bonnet struts at less than £20 each.
For those of you who have a problem with non OE parts, look away now.
The pair I bought are identical to the ones I removed, have same fittings and maker's name but not the GM logo.
They do however hold the bonnet open, unlike the knackered ones I removed.

Nobody has an issue with non oe parts, however parts that are not fit for purpose.... Etc etc.
How long have the new struts been in service?

Bit late to do that now Harris, it was last seen upside down during a banger race at Foxhall Stadium, Ipswich in the 1980s :D
