Title: CD Navi infotainment centre.
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 17 June 2015, 20:14:54
What a sack of shit.

Single play CD with MP3 facility, which apparently reduces the need for disc space by a mighty 10%.

What  is wrong with a 4, 6 or 10 disc CD player.....so we don't have to piss about.

You numpty, it reduces the disc space required TO 10% not BY 10%.  ;D :y

Not a bad unit the CD70 to be honest and they usually have aux in as well so you can connect your record player up (post preamp)

CD70 also has two slots, the 90 just supports a DVD drive for the nav so you don't need multiple discs across Europe.

The 40 had a four disc (from memory, might be 6) changer.

Not how I read page 74 of the audio manual.

......and I quote.

A method for compressing audio data developed by the German Fraunhofer institute. The compression allows a reduction of the data quantities BY about 10% of it's original size without any audible loss in quality. :P :P :P

Clearly lost in translation then!  ;D :y

If it only compressed it that much you would not bother to use it given the compromise in audio quality.

Maybe I'm a luddite......but filling six slots with six discs of your choice seems far better than all this pissing about. Especially as the sound quality is compromised.

What audio delight do you have in your Astra, Steve?

Very trues, but I think it comes down to your needs and listening preferences. For example I travel a lot for work (both UK and abroad) so I carry all my music on my phone, means no extra baggage, I can buy music anywhere I like including if I CBA or am barred from leaving my hotel (we work in some top spots!) and have anything I want to listen to on hand at any time.

For me, the process would be...

- Locate (more likely buy) 6 blank CD's
- Fire up computer
- Try to cram as much music as I can onto the 6 cds
- fill 6 slots with 6 cds
- hope they don't knacker the HU

Having the bluetooth HU is invaluable to me, get in, select playlist, go.

I suspect the "progress" or otherwise is driven by the way people buy and listen to music now.

See my post on mobile phones. I have exactly what I need. CD player for when the youth is being ferried back and forth, and radio 2 for when I'm alone.
