Title: HBV question
Post by: danzigfan on 03 July 2015, 19:55:36
Hi guys, do I need to drain coolant when replacing HBV as per guide? Or is it enough just to replace HBV and top the coolant lost in the procedure?
Thanks Stan

Depends how fresh it is IMHO - if its fairly old, by the time you've faffed about topping up and bleeding the system, its not much extra to flush and replace the lot.

No need to drain it, just top up as necessary when you've fitted the new one.  :y

I have an HBV valve sat here waiting to be fitted, but due to my health, cannot do it, can anyone do it for me. Sorry for hijacking this thread, but its HBV related, am in Knaresborough, near Harrogate BTW

No need to drain, they usually leak down to the point where it makes no odds anyway. You'll get some residue but nothing to worry about. If you lift it off its peg and hold it higher than the level it leaked down to, you won't have a problem.

Just swap it out, top up, then usually top up after the next journey. Job jobbed.
